If say, I hadn't explored the Oleanvir Valley could I explore it while burrowed and have it count towards my explorers ranking?

Think so since burrowing is like flying. Just be sure to do it two levels below since people above can tell when someone burrows if they're one level below. smile.gif

If you're over what, 5 levels below, they won't even see you on WHO, it's like being off-continent.

Need a reason it would be busted. Someone would have to have a couple of novice alts, have one walk around the mountains on top, and the other walk aronud them while burrowed. I forget what skills let one burrow, geomancey does, and I thought there was a totem that did as well, so the commune option would probably be better for doing the comparison.

CONTROL CASE
I created a new character, Asay (from Assay, which it wouldn't let me use), and skipped the tutorial. Once I gained control I took one step OUT and typed score.
Asay @ Before the Portal of Fates: You are a Vagrant in the Fellowship of Explorers.

I took the Portals to the Ravenwood, and then back to the Last Chance Trading Post then went directly to the downwards path that connects to the Northern Range and followed through the Razines.

By the time I got to a few rooms past the hut I had hit Pedestrian. I took a few more steps to give me a little margin for error.
Asay @ An overgrown garden encircled by the ruins of a wall.: You are a Pedestrian in the Fellowship of Explorers.

USING BURROW
For this I created another character, Cruxible, and skipped the tutorial. Once I gained control I took one step OUT and checked my score.
Cruxible @ Before the Portal of Fates: You are a Vagrant in the Fellowship of Explorers.

I followed the same steps as last time: through Portals to Brennan, this time I learned up to groundhog, and then Portals back to the Last Chance Trading Post. I went northwards to the path and burrowed as soon as I reached Approaching the Path of Avechna. My score was still Vagrant at this point. I burrowed down again to put me two levels underground.

When I hit Windy Pass, I couldn't burrow through, so I surfaced and walked to Outside a small cave before burrowing again.

I got tired of waiting to move maybe twice every minute or two, so I surfaced at Passing small caves and slept until I had full endurance.
I slept again at Climbing a stone staircase, Deep within the northern mountains, Wind-swept cliffs, and The Northern Mountains adjoining the Razine Mountain Range.

After the Adjoining room, I got tired of burrowing, so I decided to walk to the place I stopped last time.

Cruxible @ An overgrown garden encircled by the ruins of a wall.: You are a Pedestrian in the Fellowship of Explorers.

CONCLUSION
Burrowing doesn't appear to raise explorer ranking. I burrowed through the entire space of the Northern Mountain and walked the Razines, and where I should have been to Pedestrian, I was still at Vagrant.

On the other hand, I continued walking and made it to Nearing the Southern Mountains. (I didn't learn Survey so I'm not sure which range it's in, but it's definitely far enoguh that I should have covered the distance in the Northern Mountains I didn't walk. I think there might be a bug in the Explorer Ranking code if the new territory you're exploring isn't connected to something you had previously explored.

After that I took the Portals to the LCTP again and this time walked to Adjoining. Still Vagrant. I finished walking to the Overgrown Garden and I was still at Vagrant. Cruxible has walked all the land that Asay did, plus most of the southern mountain range (can't remember what it's called) and is way behind him in terms of Explorer Ranking.

I went ahead and registered the character incase Estarra or anyone else wanted to take a look at it. I won't use it anyway. I'll go ahead and suicide him in a couple weeks if I'm still thinking about it.

ACTUAL CONCLUSION
Possible. At the moment, burrowing doesn't seem to improve Explorer Ranking. I have no idea if it is supposed to or not, because burrowing with an early character seems to break ER anyway.

BUMP finished my analysis.

Edit: *cough* I was expecting this to meld into the other post. Could someone delete it?

I'm actually really curious to hear about this one. Does anyone know why burrowing broke the Explorer Rankings?
