Hunt the Tully (apologies to the Wumpus)

Back to Ideas.

This is an idea I had for a wargames-type situation with Aetherships and Aetherspace. It's something I'm willing to sponsor. Here's my idea if I was going to sponsor a wargame.

* There are at least 2 teams. 1 team is the defending team, and needs at least 1 ship. There can be one or more attacking teams. For purposes of this discussion, a team is all the members of a crew (including passengers/marines/defenders) in a ship or ships. Multiple ship teams must form an armada.
* The goal is to gain a prize. The goal is to kill Tully by boarding the transport ship and destroying him in person.
* One ship is designated to carry Tully. This ship is identified by name and a pre-determined area is designated for the ship to wander--this is on the prime aether. The defending ship can't leave this area or dock when the game starts.
* The defending ship may be part of an allied armada. These ships are allowed to go out farther, acting as scouts or to bolster the defensive of the other ship.
* The defending ships are given a 30 minute head start to get ready and in position.
* When the word is given, the attacking teams launch and head for the ship.
* Teams are free to attack other competing teams.
* Teams may attack the defending team, but the goal is not to "destroy" the vessel transporting Tully, but to cripple it and/or board it. They may destory other defending ships.
* If the defending team can hold off all the other ships for a designated time (say 1-2 hours), they win.

* Limitations

* I'm not sure if there should be any other limitations. If we're going to have a boarding event, I don't think Tully should be protected behind reinforced doors. And no "changing the manse" crap during the raid.

* Prizes.

* I know I could give out 100,000 gold as the prize if I organized it. This would have to be divided evenly amonst all the team members, so this might encourage smaller teams rather than large teams.

* Adapting for use.

* Maybe this could be adapted by an admin for a better constest. Maybe a valued prize--like a new ship artifact, more gold, credits, or something else. I could see hunting an NPC--maybe a gnome automation as the victim and the gnomes sponsor the event.

* If boarding was too difficult, then perhaps just shooting down the ship, but I'd like to see the ramheads get used.

Good Idea? Bad? Any thoughts or comments?

I really don't know how ships act while rammed. Can ships move, or use aetherskills while rammed, do the two rammed ships move in sync if they do?

Defending fleet: "Tully's ship has been rammed, move to flash point Alpha!"

*The fleet flashpoints, and picks off the offending ship in seconds.*

Should gave this article a better title--I had read about "Hunt the Wumpus" earlier...grr...

That sounds like it'd be fun if you actually did it.

I'm willing to do it. I just don't think I should try to set it up so close to the anniversary. Maybe the week after... I also put it out there as something the admin might want to consider.

It's also something that involves combat--which is more popular than some of my other ideas. And it's a type of combat that people seem to like doing?

But any ideas about the rules? Too hard? Too Restrictive? Too easy to beat?

Heck, I'd even do this Saturday evening if I got enough interest, but it's kinda short notice.
