The title is self-explanatory. What are the worst video games you've ever played, and if possible, what made you hate them? Aaand...go!
Diamondais2006-09-30 03:41:35
Eternal Ring. Never once explained how I was to get my weapon, then, I wandered too far into the caverns full of monsters and promptly got lost. Narid got a little bit further. He got the weapon, and the Water Ring. Then he got lost.
Arix2006-09-30 03:43:57
worst game I ever played was called Ephemeral Phantasia. I didn't even own it an hour before returning it.
Vix2006-09-30 03:47:32
I tried I think Tales of Phantasia. Battle system sucked.
Diamondais2006-09-30 03:50:13
Its really old and they left a bunch of the old glitches in the new one. Wasnt made any better.
Unknown2006-09-30 04:05:16
Hmm... Bastard, the game makes no real sense, just jumps right into a story which is little and sucks also.
Unknown2006-09-30 04:09:11
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, with the exception of its kickass boss music. Every football game ever made.
Shiri2006-09-30 04:27:22
FFMQ was bad. Bastard was bad.
Tales of Phantasia, however, was not bad. Wtf, Vix.

Acrune2006-09-30 04:36:31
Hmm, off the top of my head, Nightcaster.
Unknown2006-09-30 06:29:02
I agree with Nejii.. I have to ask, what the *Censored* was the point of Bastard?
Unknown2006-09-30 09:41:06
Harry Potter and the Chanber of Secrets for computer. I just bought it to see what my little brother was so obsessed about. Completed it in a few hours. Returned it straight after.

Who thinks Tale of Phantasion sucked?? Everything about it is great. The battle system is different but in no way uncool and you have to watch the story unfold a bit before you see just how awesome everything is. I mean Klarth talking about Archie, " like a tiger!' Mermorable
Anyway, worst game ever? ET for the Atari, just.....awful. There was almost no point to it, I could not figure out what to do. I never beat it.
Ever Grace for the Playstation 2--horrid story, short play time, bleh music.
Another vote for FFMQ: bastard lovechild of Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior (the first ones).
And for the Worst Soundtrack ever: Drakengard, just horrrid scores that only last 3 seconds before starting over again. Had to play the game on mute most the time.

I don't know, there's sure been a lot of them. Since no one has mentioned it yet, however, I'll have to give Superman 64 my vote.
Oh, and as a slight derailment, if I had to pick a game that was so incredibly awful that it was good, I'd have to say Captain Novolin.

The new one got rid of all the obvious sexual references! The boat part still had a couple of 'em, just less obvious.

You all are aware that the sexual references are there because of the fan translators? The original version has a few of them here and there, but they're far more subtle.
EDIT: Tales of Phantasia is FAR from the worst video game ever. It's very cool and has only a few disadvantages: fights tend to get tedious after a while, especially if you have both Klarth and Arche and just see them casting spells; the deus ex machina ending, for which I'd smack the Game Master if it was a real RPG session and I'd be the player; and the game gets a bit less plot-intensive in the future part. But all these disadvantages are really small, especially when compared to weak points of, for example, FF VI, which is considered by many as one of the best jRPGs ever.

I know some are.

I never liked the "liberal" translations of those parts.
That said, the rest of it was all definitely awesome. They did a good job on Bahamut Lagoon too.

They've put a few "unplanned" sexual references in Bahamut Lagoon too. Wonder why they didn't do it with Star Ocean - if they were the ones to translate it of course. But I think they were.
Shiri2006-09-30 15:25:40
I must've missed the ones in Bahamut Lagoon. I just especially remember the whole "tiger" crap on the boat...bah.
EDIT: And I couldn't work out what attracted anyone to Star Ocean. It seems incredibly bland. So I didn't bother playing through that past a while.

Whatever! If Tales of Phantasia aren't the worst game ever, they don't belong to the thread. Let's stop derailing... although I think I'm the one who started it.
Well, I have such luck that I don't play bad games usually. I also don't consider games that fail expectations to be worst games - for example, Final Fantasy VIII is one of the weakest from FF series for me, but it doesn't make it a weak game.
WAIT! I found one.
Dink Smallwood. I wouldn't play for it if I had to pay even 2$, but it was as a full version in a magazine I regularly buy.
WORST. RPG GAME. EVER.
Edit: Duh, forgot about Knights of Xentar.
