So, I've been offered 2:1 odds on the "milk bet."
Bet info:
Drink a gallon of 2% or higher milk in one hour. Then, hold down the milk for another hour. Do that, you win. Can't finish the milk or can't hold it down for the hour, you lose. The price is yet to be determined, so far we've discussed $100 as the bet.
Background:
The human stomach's capacity is about 2 liters. Milk is processed into the small intestine at the rate of 1-3 milliliters a minute. One gallon >> 2 liters (dimentional analysis is your friend, 1 Liter = 1.057 quarts and yes I'm a silly goose who has that memorized)
Discuss, flame me for being stupid, etc!

I'm surprised they havn't thought of filming stuff like this for a "got milk?" commercial.
good luck anyway, crazy

That's math! Math hurts me. ( <---- me after trying to do math )
I'll just cheer you on! You can do it!
Ixion2006-10-04 05:33:50
Come now Noola, you can do it! Compute the triple integral of a varying density function, then rotate the funtion's object around the y-axis and find that volume!
Verithrax2006-10-04 05:33:52
Pure or chocolate flavoured?
Ixion2006-10-04 05:34:21
Regular, though I'm going to have it room temperature so my body temp doesn't decrease.

But I'll root for you anyway!
Daganev2006-10-04 05:37:23
don't do room tempature, that will make you sick....
I don't know about milk, but people have drank gallons of water and gallons of orange juice and kept it down.

Still rooting for you but..... gross.

Water based products are easy. Milk is so rough and nearly imopssible due to its chemical composition. Google research ftw.

Milk makes me ill, I can handle enough of it for a coffee but that's about it.
Such a shame, I love chocolate milkshakes.
Good luck and don't come crying to us when you're vomittng .

Wow, that explains so much... I still love my oreo malt milkshakes, even though they hurt my stomach
Unknown2006-10-04 06:14:36
It took me years to figure out why I was always so congested and sick after having a lot of dairy.

Seriously, it'll be easier if you have it near freezing point, or at least warm it beforehand. Besides, given your body mass and volume and the amount of heat you'll produce in the process of digesting the milk, I doubt it would have a measurable effect on your body temperature.
Ixion2006-10-04 07:03:59
Nope, most likely. A gallon actually lowers your body temp a bit so people have experienced. I'm going off of second hand info, can't verify first hand, but I see no reason for them to lie about it.
Verithrax2006-10-04 07:06:46
Your body temp according to your own perception (IE, you feel cold) or according to proper measurement? Body temperature fluctuations are alright. You have worse things to worry about (Like your stomach bursting inside you).
Ixion2006-10-04 07:27:52
Naw heat and cold are just perceptions as you said. I was referring to actual body temp. Again, I have no way of confirming/denying without doing it. I'll know next week when I do it hee!
Ayruk2006-10-04 09:45:01
I did this one time at a camp to win the camp competition, it was so hard AND it was strawberry milk. But hints maybe...if I can understand stomachy things properly, if you hold your breath for a time the pressure SHOULD push a higher rate milk from your stomach for a while. It seemed to work for me at least. Good luck!

Soy milk (Silk brand is the tastiest, IMO), has made for some very tasty milkshakes.
