This thread is defunct. It's runners have taken over the Lusternia Lore Wiki.
The Scrying Pool
Link here!
Update: 7 Oct 2006
- Gwylifar was kind enough to post a huge amount of Aslaran culture (and note that alternatives are welcome if they exist). Check out this awesome resource, and contribute if you wish to add to it!
- Two new pages have been added to the Lusternian culture section - Game terms used out-of-character and Common terms used in-character. These contain some of those uniquely Lusternian phrases like Denizen, Shard and buff, as well as some more generic IRE or MUD terms like griefer, ganking and newbie. Add your Lusternian terminology to the list!
- New information on parleying in the Mesa was added to the Parleying Guide, but we still need lots more! If you've been able to get yourself unenemied, let other Lusternians know how much they have to pay.
EDIT: Link updated to the new location!
EDIT: What the hell was all that crap in this post...made linking things ridiculous...oh well, there we go

UPDATED hunting Areas for Gorgogs, Spectre Island, and Merians. Enjoy.
Gandal2006-10-07 04:32:26
Lvl 75 for gorgogs? Does that mean comfortably and safely or ability to kill? I've been able to kill them since lvl 65...
Veonira2006-10-07 04:40:45
Umm I'm too lazy to register for an account or anything, but if someone wants to add my Tailoring Database to the Tailoring section that'd be cool.

Awesome, wonder who'll show up as a Notable Character and their reasonings.

I like how a handful players think that they can whip up huge swathes of 'culture' that are complete fabrications based purely off of conjecture, and proceed to force it upon the rest of the players, completely assured of their own rightness.

I like how Gwylifar just made up a bunch of random BS about Aslaran tribal culture.
Umm, what game have you been playing exactly? That's how people come up with "history" and "culture" in these games
"Hark! We hath discovered the ways of our ancient and venerable brethren!" *makes stuff up*
Unknown2006-10-07 06:10:35
You do know Guido, that if someone writes a book like that and its submitted to the Library scholarly contest and wins, it automatically becomes canon? (Not bardic, but the IG scholarly competition)
Unknown2006-10-07 06:13:04
First of all, Aslarans are in no way related to cats. Based off the histories it's impossible - evolution isn't the case in Lusternia. We had a cat god, whom the various cats were based off of, and whom splintered to form a catlike race. Similar, yes, but every Aslaran seems to think that they are direct blood relations to a pack of wild tigers or lions, which is silly. The 'savage nobility' bit is a total Exarius fabrication - that and the tribal structure, plus a dash of random Indian (eastern) titles, and you've got a culture that pretty much mimics the stereotypical Native American setup except with big cats instead of people.
Terrifying, isn't it?

There are few cultural traits which can be described for any Lusternian race which will hold for all, or even most, members of that race. Centuries of interaction (and even interbreeding) with other races, assimilation into the cultures of commune, city, order, and guild, and the influence of preternatural and extraplanar forces from the humblest fae to the mightiest divinity, ensure so much diversity that it is impossible to claim any race truly has its own culture anymore.
Notwithstanding this observation, the close ties the aslaran have to their feline heritage invariably demonstrate themselves in certain ways, though which specific ways vary widely between tribes and individuals. Following are a few traits of aslaran culture which have been observed, a by no means complete collection of ways in which the heritage of Aslarn manifests in those born of His spirit.
I think this proviso at the start makes it clear that this is not to be forced on anyone, but can be used if Aslaran characters are looking for a particular flavour of background that is both detailed and immersive. As I made clear in the update post, if anyone has alternative cultures, they are just as welcome to be posted on the wiki alongside this one.
Edit: Now, if you wish to argue about Aslaran culture itself, start a new thread. Please.

Doesn't mean it's the best way, or that he has to like it.
Shanthine Pride makes a point of not trying to speak for anything outside itself, or to say it's culture is rooted in ancient traditions, for the very reason that I don't like it any more than Guido does.

What's terrifying is that you think I support the "savage nobility" view of aslaran, when that was always Gwylifar's thing. I hate noble savage stereotype in any context.
Why Gwylifar's posting a bunch of aslaran culture stuff in a game he's claimed for so long to not be playing is beyond me, but please do not mistake anything he says or does to be representative of my views or the views of anyone in the Shanthine Pride.
On its inception, the popular vote in the pride was specifically to abandon the Native American and Celtic themes and move toward an Indian (eastern) theme. All pursuit of a more primitivistic tribal culture with deep emotional ties to wildcats has been pushed for by players outside the Shanthine.
Make of that what you will.

What race and guild are you? Igasho can go about 65, but others need to wait to be safe...

CATFIGHT!
Additionally, if you bother to look around Shanthmark, you'll see a culture that is anything but Indian in origin.

What? That due to your lack of reading skills, you only refute things no one ever claimed, using facts that aren't even vaguely accurate? Yes, but only in the same sense that it's terrifying to watch film clips of Gerald Ford falling down stairs. Terrifying, and amusing. Do it again!
Incidentally, the "savage nobility" bit came from Auseklis. It was part of the original design for the race done before the game even opened, and it is canon. And as Exarius points out, he's the one who was against it.
Elryn, I thought this was going to be done quietly! Sheesh.

Just a quick update - with the help of Soll's godly collections, Tsuki's memory of Lisaera, and my own work, The Scrying Pool now has an entire section devoted to the descriptions of the Elder Gods. Also listed are the help files, room entry and exit, along with their LOOK appearance and some facts.
There is still quite a bit that needs to be updated, so if anyone has any information - please put it up!

Tsuki has many more memories of Lisaera, but they're rather scattered so she hasn't collected them all yet. And, many of them are more specific details useful perhaps for a devoted Order member to know, but nothing much that would be of interest to the casually curious.
Used to be like, "Oo, Lisaera's speaking! Quick, copy/paste to a notepad file and save it!" And then I collected a few from Laysus and Zenji and Elryn from discussions in their hearing when Tsuki wasn't around that they shared with me.

I've got Raezon's description and it looks like the description of Lacostian is not his original one. I've got an earlier version of his. I'm not hip to the wiki stuff though so someone else will have to post it.
LACOSTIAN
He is a radiant immortal and is standing motionlessly in soft, divine winds.
His ageless body is complemented with the long lean muscles of youth, and His pale skin is starkly smooth, unblemished by the passage of millennia. His crystalline eyes are aglow with an unmistakable power as the colours fluctuate in hue from darkest emerald to the fiercely flashing blue of a lightning storm. Powdered kohl darkens the lower rims of His eyelids, adding depth and shadow to His expression. Massive charcoal tinged wings arch proudly from His shoulder blades, the surreal undertones of black and grey plumage slowly tapering down to His ankles. Long plaits of shimmering black hair frame His angular face before spilling over His shoulders in a waterfall of purest shadow, draping past His torso and stopping just below His waist. An emanation of soothing warmth lingers about Him, attesting to His compassion and kind nature. He is wearing a heavy white robe, a circlet of shimmering black metal, a ring of smoky quartz, a silvery velvet pouch, a hoop earring of black metal through His right ear, and a hoop earring of black metal through His left ear.
RAEZON
He is a radiant immortal and a flickering aura of cerulean flames glimmer about His presence. His lithe form stands taller than most mortals, unbowed by the ethereal rainment adorning His frame. Eyes of blue steel send a piercing glance from a countenance that has an almost serene nature, a quality of calmness that shrouds what truly crosses His mind. A circlet holds back jet black hair cascading to his shoulders that seems to be continuously blown about in an unseen breeze. Tensed muscles coil with a feral energy that seems to dance across His form echoed by the scent of newly charged air after a lightning strike. He is wearing a circlet of beaten silver, a shimmering scabbard, and ethereal robes of coruscating twilight.
