Bards cannot select totems, necromancy, celestialism, aquamancy, or geomancy, which the races require for their specializations. However, they do each have their own specialization which is very much tied to their home (and these paths). For example, Shadowbeat.
Will selecting the Shadowbeat specialization allow for a "Shadowbard" racial change for faelings, for instance?
Currently, the guildmaster of the Harbingers has lost shadow status (and thus, racial regen in the Glomdoring woods).

Since we're dealing with songs, and Trill are bird like, maybe they can specialize as Crowfeather Trills...Give Trills something to do...or maybe Mugwumps, 'cause it's swampy near glomdoring...
Just thinking of giving other races some loving...

The races that weren't meant to be specced don't need any loving. And I heard that there won't be any specializations most likely, from a good source.
Unknown2006-10-08 16:42:12
Maybe they won't have specs at all, it's entirely possible that we're going to see new guilds which have more in common with each other then the rest of their nations.
...and even if they do plan to have specs, it's best to introduce them when it's actually fully public and the specs are avalible to everyone, which won't be for another month.

Umm... why? If faelings get the specialization in Glom, what does it matter if they get it now while Elfen don't get to specialize until they join the Serenwilde bard guild?
Jack2006-10-08 18:28:15
Don't think it makes sense for them to get spec races. Trackers don't, after all.

Ecologists in the Druid guilds do, so it's not hunting specifically that bans it.
The warriors also get to choose whether to take the skill that gives a specialization, or a skill that doesn't.
Bards don't get this choice.
Note that both Aquamancers AND Geomancers get it, though it doesn't technically "make sense" (they don't get Celestialism/Necromancy).
It actually makes more sense for a Merian to become something special if they take up Starhymn than if they take up Aquamancy...

I disagree with your last statement. Merians were the creators of the Aquamancy specialization. The Aquamancers created the Pool of Stars (We know how critical the Pool is) and found the first elemental plane. If it were not for them, people would probably still only know about the Prime and Ethereal planes. So it makes very good sense that Aquamancy would give a specialization. Again remember that without the Pool of Stars, there would be no Star.

I would hope that each of the music specializations allow the existing city or commune races to evolve. In Serenwilde, it makes sense that Elfen would be touched by the Music of the Forest. In Glomdoring, Faelings would transform into shadowcasters when exposed to that level of wyrd. Likewise for Merians and Viscanti.
I hope new races don't 'specialize', because the whole point of specialization is that the affiliated race can switch between any guilds in that nation and be extremely competitive.
Edit: What might be interesting is new evolutions for the existing races though. Shadowspeaker Faelings? Viscanti Aristocrat (with the charisma boost everyone has been hoping for)?
Edit edit: And there should NOT be faelings in Glomdoring that regenerate in normal forest. I would say it is just something that has been overlooked for the moment.

That would be a good idea, to give some of the races native to the organizations some stat boosts.

I seem to recall that the Forest complained everytime any new plane was found beyond the Ethereal. You have any information to back up your statement, or are you making it up out of thin air like I did with mine?
Unknown2006-10-09 11:38:23
Heh, you're both right, I think.
The communes discovering the ethereal plane of course contributed to helping civilization go further, but I seriously doubt the communes did anything short of oppose the efforts of the cities in doing so.
See, no need to fight!

Actually, I was under the impression that the Vernal Goddess Kiakoda first discovered the Ethereal plane. The communes had not come into existence until after the Vernal War.
Unknown2006-10-09 11:58:13
Oh fine, that too. The communes REdiscovering the Ethereal contributed then.

Isn't that because you also have Totems and Totems is what the spec. comes from?
