Right here->340099, Estarra said that they were planning to revamp Illusions.

Discuss! What you think of them, what you expect, and what you wanna see!

Personally, I am really looking forward to them.

I suppose, if the admin are OK with it, we could make a thread in Ideas to talk about...well...ideas for it.

I'd like to see illusions that are more dangerous for phantasms--stuff that can actually hurt you.

I'd love to see improved magic mouths or illusions that have simple triggers--set them to go off only with a certain individual, org, clan, or community enters.

I'd love to see the most powerful illusions be "world" or "plane" based--you create fireworks that can be see outside on the prime plane. Or Illusions that can be see over the entire local area.

I'd love the ability to disguise yourself as an ordinary denzien.

A cool ability for phantasm illusions could be 'Hallogram'

Leave a life-like illusion of yourself in the room that lasts for x amount of seconds/minutes, and when people look in the room it looks like you're there.

Oh, and I'd also like back the option to see my own improved illusions... it's helpful for if you want to practice and whatnot.

I think it's really cool. I've always thought illusions could be really cool, and they have some useful skills, but it'd be awesome to see them fixed up a bit to have some better skills, particularly combat-wise. Many of the skills go unused because they have no actual purpose (ie: fireworks, I only use that if I'm on astral and need to kill some power tongue.gif)

I could see something like scryfool... Create a temporary illusion that last for 1 minute that tricks people into believing you're in a different location when they use scry or window.

Although--False Death--create a death illusion that makes it look like you died on deathsense or deathsight and then cloaks you for 30 seconds or something...

Maybe another anti-scry illusion--horrors of the mind, a mental protective system that if anybody actively scries you they see a horrid image and take some kind of damage from it.

Phantasmagoria--dementia, but instead of person based, it's room based--that is, anybody in the room is afflicted because it's a physical illusion.

For Phantasms--I'd like to see something akin to "Shadow Magic" from the old versions of the D&D game. I'd like to see something that could cause huge damage if you don't "disbelieve", but only minimal damage if you do believe it--the horrors of the mind affecting the body. Maybe using realtycheck or an active resistance power would help.

But I'm also a fan of the utility abilities, and the entertainment aspect of it. So I hope there's some focus on that.

It sounds awesome, and I've always loved Illusions, but I just hope that it's not Mages getting nice combat stuff (Don't take phantoms from us!) and Bards getting RP skills and utility that won't be worth a damn in a fight.

I like the idea of an anti scry defense. It doesn't even have to be showing your being somewhere else, it coudl be as simple as you scry them out, but cannot discern their location. The AB could be "GenericTerrain" Create an illusion of completely nondescript terrain around you that will baffel those who scry you. Maybe the Astrology scry could still go through it since it's more of a celestial navigationthingy? (if this makes no sense it is because I am really tired)

The only problem is that magi are balanced right now. Making illusions a better skillset would overpower them, unless nerfs were made to their existing skillsets (like psionics, for which nerfs are in the works already, from what I've heard).

Making illusions useful for things other than annoyances would compliment a major change to psionics quite nicely.
Sylphas2006-10-08 18:53:19
Hmm. We can stack Saplings and Terrain without a city, nice.

thumdown.gif That shouldn't be possible in the first place.
Vix2006-10-08 19:06:21
Probably won't be after the illusion changes.

I agree. Hopefully, Terrain will be in Phantasms when Illusions is revamped. Anyone who says "Well, illusionary terrain is more of a Glamour..." will be stabbed. Don't do it.
Ekard2006-10-09 10:35:34
I cant wait for illusions changes.
Ildaudid2006-10-09 14:31:24
Im not sure if I read the bard thing right but are bards going to be able to get Illusions AND Tarot??
Unknown2006-10-09 14:32:20
I suspect it is OR. They only have three choices, two of them are Music and Acrobatics. As in, they will be able to choose between Illusions or Tarot.

Primary: Music, specialising in Shadowbeat for Glom; Necroscream for Mag; Wildarrane for Seren and Celest gets Starhym.

Secondary: Acrobatics

Tertiary: Cities can pick from Illusions or Tarot
Communes choose from Illusions or Hunting->Ecology.

I'm not sure what to think about illusion changes.. I just want to keep my blur, phantoms, and terrain.

I just wanna cure phantoms..... oh and whoever would choose illusions over tarot... hmmm doh.gif
But actually I was worried they could use illusions and tarot... that would have been scary scary scary ohmy.gif
Shamarah2006-10-09 19:29:02
Well, tarot/ecology are clearly meant to be superior skill choices - most guilds have a skillchoice that is clearly superior (tarot for guardians, psionics for mages, hexes for wiccans, and druids are the exception as they can function well with any of their three skills).
Arix2006-10-09 21:18:08
get rid of sparkles, or make it like the second or third skill on the list. There's no need for it to be up as high as it is
