Just a question, since I'm new at this...

But I just influenced 32 guards with a harmony blessing at level 80, and only got 2%. Isn't that a bit low? Am I imagining things?

Is there a better place to be influencing?

Tosha is better than guards. Still, influencing is awesome experience at low levels, and terrible at high levels. Why? Because you can influence the best denizens in the game at level 30.

It's like if you never got better at bashing ever, but could easily kill astral spawns at level 30, but they gave an eighth the experience. There's no increase in the experience gain from where it starts, and no increase in your influenceing skill or in the difficulty.

Influencing really needs to be revamped in my opinion for these reasons.

Woo, 48 guards for 3%!

Now, why's tosha better?
Unknown2006-10-10 07:01:02
16 guards for 1% at lvl 80? Sounds about right.

Guards aren't really all that tough anymore for me, I can sway them -without sipping- myself now. I just need mercy/sun/performance active. with the appropriate dramatics perform for the influence attack.

Tosha's better because there are many monks(guards are 'hunted out' most of the time), so many I bet I could stay there forever influencing if I was alone, by the time I finished the last one the first one would be uninfluenced.

Charity influencing is just blanketly easier than all other types for whatever reason. Normal tosha monks give about the same as a guard, there are more of them, and they take about half the hits to influence. The masters give twice as much as a monk, and they are still easier than guards. Quettle is much harder, but gives even more experience.

At 66, the four Masters and the ten Brothers of Enlightenment (ignoring Quettle) gave me 20%. Normal monks go down for me in 6 hits, brothers go down in 7, Masters go down in 9, and Quettle goes down in 12. Not sure what your numbers are, or exactly how hard guards are.

EDIT: For the record, experience from influence is exactly the same as experience from bashing, but you can't crit on influencing so it takes longer at the later levels, and you can't influence Astral, and you can't influence in the Catacombs, and you can't influence raiders, and those are my primary sources of experience.

Wesmin, that is so. When I used to influence tosha by myself, I would colour code the mobs I had already influenced and by the time I had worked my way through everything, it would have reset.

If I go as fast as possible, I can actually run out.

I just keep track of the esteem I'm gaining from influencing, rather than the experience. Gives me more of an impression of accomplishment. biggrin.gif
Richter2006-10-10 08:10:51
I'm almost at 100% biggrin.gif
Arix2006-10-10 21:07:36
I influence trader Bob. At my level he's usually good for about 3-5 %
Gandal2006-10-10 21:32:06
Some people said that guards were good, and so I tried them...harder than Tosha, less exp angry.gif . With 16 charisma & wheedling & lvl 56 (my faeling alt Keldor), I can handle up to brothers in the monastery - more exp and more gold and more esteem and not 'bashed out' = Yay!

There's always the aetherspheres for influencing, someone told me once that one of them was awesome for high level influencing.
Vesar2006-10-11 02:06:01
I influenced soley from newbie to level 50. Once I got 50, I noticed that the experience gain dropped dramatically and I haven't influenced since.

I wish it was a viable option for the higher levels.
Daganev2006-10-11 02:40:29
is it really 16 guards? odd, I thought I it was 5. Guess I was having too much fun and not paying proper attention, sorry.
Shaeden2006-10-11 02:41:45
I did all of 65 through Tosha... I get 1% per monk. It's not that bad. I stll do bob on every occasion - 3% at 68 *twiddle*

That was nerfed long ago.

The guards are horrible experience and esteem, really. I personally influence the Ur'dead in shallach. The troopers give the most experience are really the only one worth the time. Influencing all ten of them is always 1% at my current circle (79). While influencing one of them before 70 is always 2% (they give 2% esteem too)

A newbie with a chanter and the paranoia skills can advance so fast it's not even funny in there. Got me from 65 to 75 in two days.
Vix2006-10-11 22:42:45
You know what would be awesome? Influence criticals!
Gandal2006-10-11 23:40:37
wub.gif YES.
Unknown2006-10-11 23:41:33
Criticals are pointless. The speed at which you finish things with all the possible buffs is already enough to outpace yourself in Tosha.
