When I'm in zMUD, I occassionally get the voting message. So I cut the link, paste it into my web browser, and then vote on the site.
When I do this, I get a thank you from the zMUD window...
How does the Lusternia system know that I voted. It was a cut and paste to a seperate application on a different port? I didn't click on the link to send a message, so I don't THINK zMUD would know we voted.
I guess what I am saying is does an App like zMUD or the server communicate with the browser or ? I'm just feeling a little paranoid and I wonder if Lusternia or zMUD knows what goes on in the web browser--I have a little mental image of Estarra, Morgfyre, and Charune all laughing and watching where they go.
I know and trust you guys, so I'm not worried, but I'm just wondering how the vote "knows" what happened.

Not sure exactly how it does it, but remember it might also just be the site checking your IP and sending it to Lusternia.
Don't quote me, though.

I do believe that is exactly what happens. The site sends an IP back, Lusternia checks its IPs logged on, and says, "Hey, these ones match. Send a thank you to that person!"

Ah, okay, that makes sense then. Didn't even think of it that way...

When you vote I think you "click" a link to a page in the lusternia server that records your vote. Then it moves you to the TMS site and does the voting. But if you do the experiment and pass on voting (click the smallish link to enter without voting) I think Lusternia is unable to tell if you voted or not.

Actually, just opening the page through the link gives the "thank you for voting" message, whether you vote or not (at least, that's how it works to me). Though you're right, the link does go to http://www.ironrealms.com/irex/tmsvote.php?id=lusternia first-- that's where it'd get your IP before forwarding you to the TMS vote page, and that'd be why it thanks you before you actually vote.
