The Dramatics Contest

Alrighty.

It's the end of the day on Friday and I'm frankly tired of moving campuses into holding schools because they've met their lead-cap for the month.

So, instead, I'd like to ask a question:

How come no one wants to compete in the Dramatics contest in the Festival? I thought, when I was dreaming it up, that it would be a fun contest. And especially fitting because of how Lyreth brought the Dramatics to the world and all. But no one seems interested at all. I've procurred a pretty large amount of credits and gold for prizes, the majority of which is slated for this contest as it's a team event and so each member of the team gets a prize...

So... how come no one wants to compete in it? Haven't gotten a single message about it. No one's even asked me any questions about it. I'd like to know so next time, I'll know what sort of things people are looking for in a contest.

This is, of course, all OOC. Though if you want to share your character's IC feelings about it, that's fine too.

Its a wonderful idea Noola. For me its many things, like not knowing anything in the skillset....and I have not even considered looking for a partner and then wondering if I can even be there for the contest what with my daughter and all. But now I would love to try! Maybe a solo?
Unknown2006-10-20 22:10:13
Yeah. I think that's part of it.. you're expecting people to have learned a non-necessary skillset to take part.
Tsuki2006-10-20 22:19:12
Other.

IC; Lyreth is in the Divine Consulate of New Celest. Any festival for Him, Tsuki isn't interested in. Really, Tsuki's never been interested in any Divine not associated with the Serenwilde. She has a certain amount of respect for Them as Elders, and has interacted a time or two in a suitable manner, but that's as far as anything goes and only prudent.

OOC: I love Dramatics, and being able to impersonate. Especially fun when teaching a novice, to ask a sprite to lend her assistance to them, then impersonate the sprite and have her interact. The festival sounds like an interesting idea, but I'd think the focus of such a thing should be on/for/with the people of the organization the Divine is associated with.

If people seem to want it, I don't mind breaking it up and making it solo. I can redistribute the prizes easily enough.

I know the skillset isn't necessary, but I also know that a lot of people have studied it. I know that people like to play with it. I thought those would be the people jumping at this. Also, I specificly said that using one ability well, is better than using many badly, just to say that even if you don't know much in the skill, you can still compete...

Yes, I can understand that. And if it had been that I wasn't getting any messages/inquiries from outside Celest, I'd just have shrugged and chalked it up to that. But I'm not getting any interest from anyone, and was wondering why.
Exarius2006-10-20 23:05:10
I'm already so swamped with a bazillion other things IC and OOC that I honestly only skimmed the announement about the festival. I've got two unrelated projects I owe Estarra, I've got half a dozen tailoring designs to pull together for other people ASAP, I'm designing more rooms for Zorana, I'm pushing to finish my novel, I'm hunting for a replacement for the big business client who flaked out on me, I've got a princess to kidnap, and I've got Gilder to frame for it all. Then tomorrow...

But on a more helpful note, in all the events and orgnizations I've been involved with starting, I've found this to be true: first-time turnout is going to be disappointing, period. The only exception is if your event comes with a huge, visceral built in hook to jump-start it (hot celebrity personal appearance, anyone?), and even that's no guarantee.

You want dramatics performances at an event? I suggest you start small, building some sort of dramatics club, and enlist them to be your core entrants when you first try to open to the public. Then if anyone else enters, it's a plus.
Verithrax2006-10-20 23:10:44
For the same reason as Tsuki, I have no interest due to IC impediments. IF it has Lyreth's name on it, it's going to be mostly restricted to Celest.
Noola2006-10-20 23:18:07
Thank you Exarius. Next time I'll do that, there isn't time though for this one as the Festival is taking place Tuesday at 7pm US central time.

And thank you too Verithrax. I hadn't expected many outside Celest to want to take part, but I'd wanted to give folks the option, which is why I asked for permission for non-enemied non-citizens to attend. I did assume most of my participants would be from Celest though.

I'm a little worried. sad.gif If no one's signing up for the Dramatics contest, then what about the other events? They're not the sort you need to sign up ahead of time for, so I don't know if anyone's going to go for them either. I guess I'm just getting worried that I've gone to all this trouble and touted this event and have planned all these things and gathered all these prizes and the only thing anyone'll show up for is the raffle drawing. (At least folks have been buying tickets or I'd feel like a complete failure! laugh.gif )
Abethor2006-10-21 01:05:28
The reason I haven't entered is because:

1) I'm not very far along in Dramatics because I rarely use it.

2) I wouldn't know where to begin to compose a little skit with the skills.

It is a good idea though, a shame that not too many people are interested. sad.gif

I tried to do a fashion show...had to cancel it. Arix also had to cancel a cooking contest. Heck, I offered 100,000 gold and 100 credits.

I don't know why these self-created events aren't more popular. Maybe people are more fans of fighting, or maybe they don't like player interaction because they aren't gods and can't do anything or "don't advance the plot".

Player cynicism is the greatest enemy.

I didn't know much about the contest, and my dramatics skill is a little low...

Simimi2006-10-21 01:50:48
I'm very very interested, and I adore anytime someone tries to push RP in Celest, and I usually jump on it... but I am not in this one because...

Dramatics Inept Performance
