I asked this question ingame but no one was sure. Do shields help with bashing or is it purely for pvp?

I've gathered that 40/40 is about right for stats... As for the armour rating, I've seen a shield with 95 for sale instead of 100, but with slightly better blunt/cutting stats. Will that affect the shield much?

The primary purpose of shields is for shieldparry. i don't consider them useful for anything else, as the benefits they grant are very negligable.

First, you need 'trueshield' in combat for it to have any effect, and even then the effect is small. A 40/40 shield will –not- reduce damage from mobs by 20%, it’s very very small. I've speculated that total skill in combat has an effect on the damage reduced as well, but I've asked trans people who still only noticed it as a small effect, we're talking around 6-12 damage reduced.

Armor ratting 95, 100, I see 110 sometimes, means almost nothing as well. Some warriors have a skill that would BREAK a shield; shields are so expensive the warriors don't use it to 'grief' people though. If your armor rating gets down to 0 bye-bye item, essentially it’s the durability of said item, the items own hp.

Heres what I know.

Firstly, 95 status just means that the forger didn't do "repair shield" one time before selling it. You can do "repair shield" at basically any point if you want the status to change, but they have not implemented armour status as being important yet (it suppose to weaken over time, and reduce affectiveness of protection... based on what Roark and Estarra have said in the past, but its NOT implemented yet)

Rumors I heard said that the stats of armor on each body part affect pve. So you add up all the stats you have on each part, divide by the number of body parts, and average it out. Shields have special affects on the arm is wielded in, or something similar. If Shields had a full effect in bashing, it would only be 1/5 of 20% , as far as I'm aware.

But I'll do some tests just to be sure.

Sounds like I'm better off buying credits to get my cudgel rather than buy a shield, to kill faster then. I'm trying to weigh up the benefits of having a shield or spending more on potions. I go through a lot of them. Orc warriors in Shallach can hit me for about 1k - two of those in a row are a bit nasty for a faeling.

Seems pretty clear cut since the damage reduction is so little (besides needing to put lessons in combat!). It's something I'll get if I ever start seriously pvping.

Thanks!

Shields are junk for bashing, cudgel is super.

Oh, I thought armor status was deepwound protection...

And quicksilver makes you regain balance faster. tongue.gif

Basically, Daganev's post is correct.

Actually, on helms and some other things, the armour status goes UP.

That and it is VERY important to keep an eye on your shield's armour status if you're going up against bonecrushers, who can SHIELDSMASH. I did that on someone who had a staff shield rune, and they were like "WTF I can't staffcast? oh wait... no staff" and from the looks of it, the item poofs, as in, is GONE. Haven't tested it on normal shields yet, but we'll see.
