Increase wood production

The price of wood has been getting pretty ridiculous. Where it could usually be easily found for 100 gold or lower, it is now incredibly scarce and DOUBLE that price.

For the sake of balance, if you're going to implement something that uses so much of a resource without bothering to implement a counter to that drain....It makes me frustrated beyond relief.

While being able to chop/mulch saplings for lumber is nice, it's only a temperary boost to the wood market that the chopper/mulcher mostly benefits from. This causes people to go onto enemy terrain and raid for lumber.

I've mentioned these before, but I'm going to mention them again. Ways to increase wood:

* We can see the Ackleberry Forest, but we can't enter it. Have a builder make that into an area that can be touched, where neutral saplings can be placed.
* ONLY Glomdoring has sentient trees that can be periodically killed for lumber. The Serenwilde should have these as well, and if Ackleberry were to become an area, then tree sentients there as well. (With the quick respawn rates of cows and sheep.)
* Have villages that already produce wood have a new quest that could increases the amount they output, or simply increase their output without a quest.

If anyone else can think of other methods to increase wood production, please post them here.

Good ideas! I tried finding wood last night so I could get some kegs made and it was psycho.

Ackleberry is gone, out of reality. We can see Gaudiguch and Hallifax, but still we can't enter them - sort of a barrier of a kind.

Wow, 5 trees or so every hour. That's not really worth it.

This can do. I agree.

Anyway, my general point - the admins won't do anything. Not that they should. The situation was exactly the same when Artisan skill came out. I know the resources are scarce and expensive, but we'll have to live with it and wait to change to normal. It's like when your city/commune controls a mountain village without any miners in it, which means metals are really scare and expensive as well. It sucks, but the situation changes and you'll have to live with it first, and then you'll (as a general you, not you as Kharaen) adjust to it and view as normal - I miss credits at 1200 gold a piece, but this won't come back ever.

But anyway, I believe we have a system in effect which makes the villages produce more commodities if they are in greater demand. Don't we? I recall an announce from a long time ago (that was one of two only instances when admins implemented changes to make up for a player driven economy crisis, the other was when Astral was completely stripped from sparkleberry).

Add more trees to Glomdoring, and then add a similar amount to Serenwilde. Also, I noted to make spawn times quick as cows/sheep respawns. I thought there was at least 7 trees though in Glomdoring, though 2 of them are in hidden locations.

Chop trees from Serenwilde or Glomdoring, easy as that happy.gif

Takes a while (IC years) for trees to grow to a large enough to be cut to get good lumber. Besides, only Hartstone messes with the trees in Serenwilde >.>

Stop making all these bardic instruments... only make them on a custom basis... That way there is no extra instruments floating around wasting wood.

Wood prices have become insane, adding just one more thing to make tracking a skillset which no one should bother taking.... I mean its like hey... take tracking... your skills will be useless against another tracker with a *Favour, wood has become so high that you will have to bash all day to get enough gold to buy maybe 50, and they have nerfed you and only given you back like 2 of the 15 skills they said they would update you with when they first nerfed you.... Yes come join us....

I am a tracker... And I just want wood for a rocker and my limited custom instruments sad.gif (Instruments that only get made once a year.) I designed a non-wood instrument, but its taking a while to get it approved...
Cairam2006-11-03 19:21:37
I design instruments and furniture out of anything but wood, because I know it's scarce. My mandolin was crafted completely from gems, gold and silver. My bookshelves are made out of iron or marble. It's easy to get around.

Although I agree, we do need more wood.

Then you should agree with me that we all need to have a meeting... a tracker council... so we can declare war on the artisians.... pirate.gif

I've been getting wood for not much more than 100, but I won't say where because it's technically IC info. unsure.gif

Either way, Glom only has sentient trees that are alowed to be bashed because it's been a bit... deformed by the wyrd-twisty-thingy. To make sentient trees in the Seren, there would have to be some sort of curse/disease on the Serenwilde, which might not go down all that well.

We've had them before. When the Dark Spirits ran wild.

Edit: And I think their trees are their own Totems from when the Taint hit, not the Wyrd. If someone from Glomdoring can correct this if Im wrong, please do!
Daganev2006-11-03 20:26:47
Why would Serenwilde have mutant trees you ar willing to kill?

You know, the communes could easily set up a system of harvesting lumber if someone decided to propose plans to them to do so.

We do have a plan in Serenwilde, it still takes years to do so and little gained by it. Glomdoring has a bit of an issue, they have no village and I dont think theyve held one that could process lumber since the early years.

I'd be declaring war on myself blink.gif

We need more wood, so that novices can have non-crappy instruments. There fore I suggest we start a "Wood for Novices" program

We do have a system in place to harvest lumber. It was recently changed. Glomdoring's wood production will be greatly reduced while the trees grow bigger. Granted, there was no way you could know this--only the Blacktalon care. You chop a tree without someone there to plant a sapling and we will come for you.

Anyways, yes, make designs without wood or less wood. If wood means that much to someone, they can take the price hit.
Kharaen2006-11-03 21:59:47
All my designs use less wood (60-75, as opposed to 90), and a new instrument that uses all gems, silk, and silver soon. One of those are even public. But I need wood for normal artisan goods, such as racks, desks, chairs, pipes and so on. Bards killed artisans and trackers >.>

Which was basically my point dry.gif

Or just wait for the instrument craze to die down.
