Mac Client

Ok, I tried searching the forums and discovered the pain that comes from not being able to search for 3-letter words.. mainly, all I can search for is 'client' rather than 'mac client', which just floods me with stuff that it would take me a decade to dig through.

So, basically, what I'm looking for is a nice mac client. I'm running Mac OS 10.4, and I've got X11, so some unix programs are open to me too.

I'd rather not have to resort to using bootcamp to install Windows on the machine though, so any help on a good solid client with MUSHclient-esque coding would be fantastic.

Thanks in advance.

TinyFugue is thought to be standard in an Unix environment, but it sucks.

Rapscallion is decent, or so I gather.

I think Veonira uses one called Atlantis.

Atlantis is designed for MUSH so that would be perfect I guess biggrin.gif (oh wait, you want MUSHclient-esque... dunno if that means you'd want to get into combat, which Atlantis will be poor at providing. There aren't really any good Mac clients for that then, unless you want to code a lot on tinyfugue). Rapscallion is old and buggy, but I still boot it up on my old mac whenever a village revolts sleep.gif

I've found it lags during spam and when you use it for a long while though.

Hm. Does anyone know of a good Pearl scripting guide? I'm used to MUSHclient and VBscript, and since I don't have access to my nifty MUSHclient helpfiles anymore, I'm pretty much lost.

Pssh, it's Perl! Just write stuff, it'll work. That's how Perl is biggrin.gif

Dunno, I was self-taught back when I knew the mess that is Perl. Perl regexps are very nice though, which should make for a good system.

EDIT: Ha, and the best part will be using the syntax: DO (stuff) OR DIE biggrin.gif It'll take on a whole new meaning.

Blaargh. I miss MUSHclient already. I'm really tempted to just dual-boot Windows on this thing solely for my darling MUSHclient.

Yeah, I could never stand to use a client other than the one I am used to (zMUD), just because I'm so used to it, even if it isn't the best one out there.

Yay for CrossOver Mac.. I can run MUSHclient without installing Windows. Unfortunately its still in Beta and the version only lasts 60 days. Hrm. But still.. yay for now.

Hooray for more Maccies! yay.gif

Hope you find something that works for you. smile.gif Nothing much left other than what people have already said. Personally, I use Atlantis. It's still in Beta, and don't try and go through Aetherspace at high speed, because YOU WILL DIE. This is because it uses the standard Mac text-box framework, but Atlantis' excellent developer is working on a new one, so that should be ironed out. Also, coding is a little slow, as yet, because you have to work through a slightly clunky API. But, who knows what the future holds. tongue.gif I'll stop rambling now.

Rapscallion only runs well in Classic Mac OS 9 I found. The half-carbonized version is total crap. TF is way, way better than Atlantis, I just use Atlantis on my laptop because I don't want to install TF (I think it may have messed up my terminal which unfortunately I need to work well for school O_o).

The coding on Atlantis sucks. I found on my laptop as soon as I had a lot of highlights and what not it started running very slowly. TF is just...better.

Somewhere on my Grand List of Things To Do is take the TF source code and make a Mac OS X GUI for it. Of course, given my complete ineptitude at reading other people's code and my own laziness and distractability, chances of this happening anytime soon fall well within the Slim category and may even approach None.
