I've an idea for a skill for Mentors and their pupils to use. If your student needs help, you'd type STUDENT UNITE and after 10 seconds you would appear by your pupil's side. There would, of course, be heavy penalties for abusing this (no uniting for a raid for the master, no going into enemy territory and telling the mentor to come help for the student).

That has way to many abusive possibilities to ever work

I'd take the gun and shoot me some rats for meal. Yumyum.

It's nice to see some ideas for expanding the mentor system, but this probably isn't the best there could be. Perhaps something that favors only novice proteges rather than all proteges.

No stealing my thunder
I posted this awhile back
Though it is not my idea! Just some things about improving the mentor thing.

Much less abusable if they would appear by your side, if they are under level 21, and they type AGREE before it would work.

-Make it so if they did anything, it'd stop on both sides.
-Must be agreeable.
-Cannot unite when mentor or student is in a territory they're enemied to.
-Make the time it takes longer.

The mentor and the protege attune themselves in such a way that the aether connection between the two (the one that you can TELEPORT or SUMMON on) is so strong that, when both manipulating it together, the mentor can pull the protege to him/herself.
(Hey, you didn't ask for a GOOD or REASONABLE RP reason...)
Elysiana2006-12-16 23:58:41
The Fates are pleased with the efforts that Mentors are putting forth, and so have gifted them with this ability to encourage them.

I don't know what is the rp Reason for being able to unite with a golden retriever. There is a special bond right? Why wouldn't there be a similar bond between student and mentor? Or it could be a special mentor item that has those powers imbued in them. The item could decay.

As part of Mentoring someone, you create a planar bond with them.
Proteges under level 20 who are not in enemy territory cost 0p to teleport to.
Proteges under level 20 can be heard by their mentor wherever their mentor is, and can talk to their mentor wherever their mentor is.

Give me an RP justification of guides. There isn't one. Some things are just done to help newbies with the game.

There is too a justification for Guides!
... a very thin one, but it does exist!

Mistress Skein, a Fate Guide (Female Human).
A guide is here to help newbies become acquainted with Lusternia. Guides do not have a roleplaying function.
I'm not really sure if guides should be refered too outside the newbie channel and when neccessary.
I like the idea, though perhaps a summon version of the 0p teleport for novices who get stuck somewhere.

Yes, I think this should be put in. At the very least, proteges, even without the right Planar skills, should always be able to contact their mentors. I also think they should always have access to the Newbie channel...what if (drawing on a recent event), a novice gets trapped somewhere where normal communication doesn't work, and they can't figure out how to leave? There should be things to prevent this...
