Two types of items, to preserve sketches:
Sketchpad or Sketchbook, made by a Bookbinder (no idea how many commodities or what skillrank would be appropriate) - allows you 15 or 20 pages to sketch on, in the same way that you would sketch normally, but without the bulk and decay times of individual sketch sheets.
Mire flips her sketchbook open to a fresh page and begins to sketch the image of an ugly purple butterfly.
If this next one seems too overpowered, perhaps it could be an artifact or require a ridiculous amount of commodities.
an Artist's Sketchbook - allows 15-20 pages on which to sketch, same as before...the catch here is that the book amplifies your skill somewhat, so you can use individual sketch sheets later to make more sketches of the sketches in the book. For example, if I wanted to make a statue of that giant serpent's maw, I would probably be chomped up and spat out before I could get six sketches in. Supposing I had someone agree to reflect me while I made one sketch, I would sketch it in this book and hop merrily back to Prime, where I could then copy that same sketch five more times and have all the necessary sketches for a statue.
Mire flips her sketchbook open to a fresh page and deftly begins to sketch the hideous thing eating the Megalith, wisely drawing it from several angles for later reference.
EDIT: Also, I think this post should stay in Idiots, if only because I'm an idiot myself for mixing this forum up with Ideas. But seriously, could someone move it?
EDIT: Fixed.

Wow you beat me to making this post. I've wanted an artifact sketchbook for as long as sketching has been an ability. I think its good how you've described it above.

Thumbs up, this is a great idea.
Richter2006-12-25 09:42:00
Suggested this a while ago, would be wonderful to save sketches for further use.

That's what shop stockrooms are for
Still, it would be really nice to have this as an artie.

Not crazy about the idea of sketching other sketches, though the sketchpad is a good idea.

Better idea... WOODCUTS!
Artisan skill:
CARVE WOODCUT FROM
2 wood
Create a woodcut out of a sketch. This will destroy the sketch, but the woodcut has longer decay time.
Bookbinder skill:
PRINT PAGE WITH
This must be done to a blank page of a book. The page will then permanently contain a woodcut of the scene, person, or object depicted.
Example page:

No, no, no, no, no, NO, NO, NO, NO!!!!
Did I mention no? Sketchpads leads to running into Imperian, and god help the first admin who suggests this to Est. I'll beat them myself.

Wtf? I want a sketchbook to store my sketches. If that means Lusternia suddenly becomes Imperian then we have bigger problems to worry about.
Shiri2006-12-28 09:32:04
I don't think she understands the difference between actual sketchpads and Imperian bard sketchpads where they draw things and they come to life.
Unknown2006-12-28 14:20:31
Sorry. Anything anywhere near Imperian'ish makes me slam on the breaks at the crosswalk, get out, and beat the old woman crossing the road.
Compassionately of course.

Shiri2006-12-28 14:41:52
I didn't notice you complaining about bards, which is certainly more of a similarity than any kind of sketchpads they use...

I did moan and groan for a while, but seeing as how I'm not a player anymore (simply a lurker), my muttering voice is lost behind the praise of everyone else.

But... but... but...
Imperian > Us.
I heard such rumours, but as I tried to play Imperian, with all the cool stuff they have, I found that A, nobody in the game cares about that stuff anymore and B. They are trying to be more like Lusternia.
In refrence to A. I think I last played the game 1 RL year ago. I logged in, accidently re- found an area that was devoted to stars and casssiopiea. I asked the semi-active order if anyone remembered how do the quest at the lake, and the response I got was ... "What? There is a lake of villagers who worshiped the Lady?... since when!?"... and I'm thinking... since a RL YEAR AGO!!!!.

I depise and loathe all things Imperian. The only person I liked on Imperian was the old Janus. I tried having a conversation with the new one a few months ago when I logged in to see if an old friend of mine was still about. I used the word "aristotle" when I was referencing the origin of the four elements theories.
Which he replied with:
Janus tells you, "Oh, I love that store!"
