It's kind of a dumb question.

How do you pronounce "Frogge"? As in, the leather halter piece that would fit on a belt or sash that holds bludgeons and daggers?

I've tried looking in a dictionary and on Google, but can't find a pronounciation key anywhere. Is it a made up word?

http://dictionary.reference.com/ is great for pronunciation keys, but I couldn't find the word in there at all. Sure it's an English word?

It's not a made-up word.

It'd be pronounced "frog" nowadays, but back in older English, the trailing Es were pronounced (which means, yes, "Ye Olde Shoppe", which is completely wrong, would be "yee oldee shoppee").

I think the trailing e's were pronounced as unaccented short e's. Not accented long e's. Practically silent, kinda like trailing e's in French are practically silent (or accented.)

On a related note, demesne is pronounced deh-MENE or deh-MAIN. There is no s, honest.

So basically it sounds like "frog"?

Basically. Since it has a hard final consonant, I don't think you'd hear the difference even if you were listening for it.

That is gonna totally screw up my ability to spell that word.... which is iffy at best! laugh.gif

The way I pronounce "Frogge" is "Frog" And then I get bashed in the stomach and breathe out a bit. Afterall, its ment to hold maces.

Frogges now a days you can find pictures of them on the net in reference to holding daggers and tools.
