This is a poem I wrote around the time I first discovered Lusternia...I read all the descriptions, looked at all the instructions, spent a few hours reading everything on the site, forgot everything, discovered the contests, decided to enter, wrote this, and never submitted it. I don't think it's finished anyway...or if it's actually correct. Ah well.
Serenwilde
I sit inside the Serenwilde
and dream of Mother Moon
my eyes with shining stars are filled
for Father Sun will take them soon
I wish for peace with Glomdoring
of life without the Taint
the elders smile and laugh quite soft
for that would need a saint
This child of dreams is standing here
and wondering who we are
who fight the Taint when they consist
of young ones fighting for parents' dreams
How soon will the fighting stop? I ask
but no one says a word
for everyone knows that we will fight
as long as we can draw our swords

Beautifully written. Literally gave me chills. You've quite a talent there.
When I read it, I got the feeling of a girl who is seeking her own place in the world. Naive and innocent, unmarred and untainted by the cruelties of the world. I truly felt my "motherly senses" tingle with sympathy and concern. A very beautiful and very original piece.
Keep writing and never doubt your talent. This poem would've won an honorable mention, at least, I would say.

Thank you! I really appreciate your encouragement! Do you think I should submit it?
Unknown2006-12-31 20:57:09
Oh, most definately.
Aila2006-12-31 21:07:07
Okay!
...By the way, I think you're probably the only person ever to compliment my work in such a nice way. Thank you very much!

Add another person to that list. That was one of the few poems I've read by someone who doesn't make a living with poetry that managed to be both profound and enjoyable. Submit that one, so it can beat the snot out of mine.
Summary:
The dumb guy says "I love it."

I also think that your poem is wonderfully done. Should you submit it? Definitely. If you think it's short, don't worry about it. I've seen even shorter ones win at least second prize. And yours is better that those even.
Aila2007-01-01 19:45:59
Thanks! I'll make sure to submit it then! Thanks for the encouragement!

Apparently I can't start my own topic, so it looks as though I gotta butt into someone else's! mwuahaha Anywho.. sorry! Hmm.. after browsing through old posts... a lil ol' something inspired me to write this.. oh so lovely poem in the eyes of Gwynevere
My life is like a book, its pages torn and old
My youth was spent searching, with a heart made of gold
Through hard work and endless determination,
In the end, I found nothing but frustration…
Crowned a Queen
Quickly lost its sheen
When lack of faith
Brought tears of hate.
Words if innocence and cute snuggly bunnies
Made my stomach turn, please… don’t mess with me, honey
A rogue life I then chose,
Ya’ll know how that goes…
Time went by, as I fought my inner demons
I thought to myself, ‘Man, life is full of lemons!’
From sweet to sour
I grew weary by the hour
As I lay to rest, my eyes grew tired,
Plans of a new life, was what I desired
Years had passed, so many faces I never knew
Slowly, I rose from slumber. Oh! What shall I -ever- do?
Some wished me gone; it’s sad… but true
Oh I know! A laugh in your face; a gift from me… to you
A mask I’ll wear, I’ll play your game
Who I serve, I’ll never name…
Find me weak, underestimate me if you must
See this angelic face? My sweet personality, I know you’ll lust
My confidence has grown--my will much stronger!
Let it be known, that I will be here for much much longer!

Ermm..I'm doing the same as the other person who can't yet start a topic. Here is a little limerick from the deepest pits of my mind (enjoy the random goodness)
There once was a real tasty Merian
Whom a Magnagorian ate as carrion
He then quickly said
With a nod of his head
'It's a good thing I didn't bury 'im'

It's gonna take a while for me to forget that, and to stop saying it out loud and having people look at me.

More random limericks
There once was a little Viscanti
Who had a big fight with his auntie
She then said 'I hate you
Now go live in a zoo'
And now the boy lives in a shanty
There once was a flying Trill
Who was looking for something to kill
So he battled some roc
And took plenty a knock
But got ripped to bits with it's bill

Alright...I just thought up some haikus (s?)
The tainted city
Magnagora is the name
Full of Viscanti
Giant Igasho
Yes, they are extremely tough
Although very slow
Feline Aslaran
With a great, impressive mane
And very sharp claws
The tainted forest
Yes, home of the Ravenwood
You know where I mean
The un-tainted place
Watched over by Moon and Hart
Home of the Moonhart
The city of Light
It's just at the Inner Sea
Water and Angels
The tainted city

Here's one I just threw together while waiting to collapse from lack of sleep. Very loosely inspired by in-game events, but not directly so. Fair warning, as well- I'm tired enough to giggle at criticism.
My love has flown on ebon wings
And yet I feel his presence still
Though hearth and home are empty things
And hearts once warm have now grown chill
His shadow lingers near the bed
Where once we lay entwined in sleep
But now alone I lay my head
And in his absence softly weep
His laughter echoes in the hall
His whispers fill my waking dreams
But, louder still, above it all
The murder's raucous, mocking screams
I might forgive him perfidy
I could forget a cruel word
I would ignore a blow, but he
Was by a deeper passion stirred
He's gone to meet his mistress fair
Drawn by a voice both wild and sure
But my poor songs could not compare
With his dark lover's fey allure
I should take comfort, I suppose
I lost him to no mortal fling
But to the sparkling midnight Rose
That blooms within the Glomdoring
My love has flown on ebon wings
And yet I feel his presence still
Though hearth and home are empty things
And hearts once warm have now grown chill
His shadow lingers near the bed
Where once we lay entwined in sleep
But now alone I lay my head
And in his absence softly weep
His laughter echoes in the hall

I only bother with poetry when I'm bored or half-asleep, for some reason, but thank you!
Druken2007-06-27 14:47:43
Beautiful poem, Amarysse. I really do enjoy your work.
Moriana2007-06-27 16:45:25
That's lovely! I hope you bother with poetry more often, Amarysse.
