Scry, Window, Farscout, and all other such abilities were designed with limitations as to how far "away" you can scry; however, this is totally defeated by being able to scry from a manse. I for one find it very tedious that -1- person can sit in their manse and set an event to farscout every 90-120 seconds if they have equilibrium and track the movement of nearly every possible enemy at a given time.
In sum, it should not be possible to scry into or out of the aetherways. There should be some actual effort put into locating a person. Likewise, there should be privacy when in one's manse.

Umm, well the aetherways are connected to all planes right? Thus yes, you can scry since it's just 'one' plane away.
Genevieve2007-01-15 06:12:15
Then why can't you talk to anyone at all, really, when you're on an aethership?
Reiha2007-01-15 06:27:35
I don't have a problem with this, even though I'm scried a lot by farscout. As for talking, that can reasoned it has more to do with planar ability.
Melanchthon2007-01-15 06:28:14
Eh, well, regardless of any IC logic for or against manse scouting, Narsrim is right that it needs to go from a balance perspective...it really is too easy to keep tabs on people.
Though, now that I think about it, that's more annoyance than anything else, since there isn't a whole lot you can do with stealth aside from sitting around being titillated that no one knows where you are. But if that's such a bob, you can just log out for the same effect.

Should be able to scry aether to aether though

Aye.
Hmm. If you have the ring of truth about you, wouldn't that make it the torus of truth?
Forren2007-01-15 07:01:21
It's fine.

Aetherbubbles and I think aetherships block all aether channels to other planes than aetherspace EXCEPT divine order aethers, I believe.
Genevieve2007-01-15 12:11:35
I think clan aethers work too.
Shamarah2007-01-15 13:04:05
Nah, manse scrying is fine.

No.. I think divine order aethers are restricted as well (they were the last time I checked). But there may be confusion because the restrictions won't apply to your god.

Just to balance all the people who are pro it... I don't like it much either.

Just for the sake of my curiosity-- what do you think of the crow Eye ability that lets you sit in your nest and watch every step a person takes on any plane?
I don't have any issue with scry working from the aetherways for this reason-- you're stuck in one place, out of the way, watching one person move around. Same with the Nest ability. Farscout, on the other hand (seeing a whole bunch of people at once), is perhaps a bit much. There's no reason to remove the single-target scry though, IMO.

Damn.. any plane? NERF!

Well, it does require 1-3p as well as actually meeting you at some point to steal your eye-- but still, yes, it gets you wandering around anywhere (room name only, of course). But the mere fact that you have to sit in the nest and can't really do much of anything else while you watch does lower its overall use. It's hard to play the game when you're sitting in your nest for a few hours.
Athana2007-01-15 23:40:51
I agree with Xenthos, normal one-person scry is fine from manses however I definitely don't think farscout should work that way.
Narsrim2007-01-16 00:32:35
Fine, fine:
Farscout (and farscout only) should not work from the aethers.

Please keep farscout the way it is. Its a good way to track raiding parties.
