I was thinking, it would be really cool if there was an artifact that allowed someone to draw power from their nexus without having to actually stand at the nexus and link.

If we're holed up in Southguard and fighting a wearing battle, it would allow one to draw more power from their nexus and keep the fight going, or in things like village influences and whatnot.

Perhaps require that the artifact must be wielded.

>Hold branch.

You wield your branch of the Ravenwood in your right hand.

>Nexus channel

You furrow your brow as you begin channeling energy from the Master Ravenwood into your reserves.

Perhaps the link could be broken by moving rooms or something similar, anyways just an idea.

Well, I've always thought that one aspect of power is knowing how to use it effectively, meaning controlling how much you use and when. But I can see your point... it can become an annoyance at times.
Shorlen2007-01-16 03:58:46
I think this would imbalance certain aspects of the game, imo. If you were holed up somewhere fighting, and you ran out of power, the whole point is that you'd have to leave for a while to get more...
Tervic2007-01-16 04:15:12
How about also placing a limitation, similar to dross, in that you can only channel so much through it per month? But I guess that'd just turn it into a kind of battery which doesn't seem to be the idea behind it.

Would the artifact change if you changed organizations? If not, then you could technically steal power from another organization ... or you'd have a useless artifact if it doesn't work if you switch organizations.

While that would be fine for the Moonhart, Ravenwood and Megalith--

What will Celest get? A miniature Pool of Stars?
Diamante2007-01-16 07:15:40
A Phial of Glistening water--
Jigan2007-01-16 11:09:37
More or less, Pool Water.

Just a bottle of Pool Water.

What about something which can be attached to a nexus, and can draw a certain amount of extra power from it, say up to maybe 20 or 30% reserves, and then during battle you can essentially use it to instantly transfer that power to you, so it wouldn't be like you can just link anywhere, you would have to prepare, but it would also give you extra power to work with.

The drawing wouldn't count to your own dross, so you would be able to basically get 15% or maybe only 10% or 5% free power from it each time.
Aiakon2007-01-16 13:56:07
Alternately, find someone who can energylink. Get them to fill up on power, and have them port to you.
Unknown2007-01-16 14:07:34
Or just change the way powerplex jewels work. I always thought they let you -draw- above the 100% too, so for one jewel you can draw up to 125%, with two it's 150% etc.. I was surpised to find how limited their effect really was (especially since I have no problem adding enough power so I can draw as much as I want). sleep.gif
Daganev2007-01-16 16:46:05
Nice idea, but I would kill anyone who chops off a branch of the ravenwood! tongue.gif

Also, I think for something like this to work, you would have to plant the item in the ground, have a balance of like 5 seconds, and other terrible things to make it a non combat issue.

Ok, after looking at powerplex jewels again, I think they could -really- need some change.

What they do right now is:

QUOTE

Powerplex Jewels: 250 credits
- These amazing jewels bestow 5% to the energy reserves of its owner at
the start of every month.
- If the power reserves are at 100%, it will increase the power beyond
even this amount (to a maximum of 125%).
- These jewels _are_ stackable, i.e., owning more than one will have a
cumulative effect.

Which means that you get 5% power each month. If you're in a city / commune you can get 15% just by using dross and you can't be blocked from drawing that. If you're rogue it is possible to buy reserves from people that have energylink or just link astral. On top of that 5% is really really really little. And that for 250 credits? Umm not really..

As it is now I'd pay maybe 50 credits for that artifact. Power may bave been a precious good once but there is plenty now. Or, as I mentioned in my previous post the artifact could not only generate reserves up to 125% but also increase your overall drawing maximum to that number. So that instead being able to have at most 100% reserves at any time you can have 125%. That would justify the price again imo.

Thoughts?

PS: And this is only a semi hijack, thank you.

upgrading artifacts is always nice.
Callia2007-01-16 23:53:46
yes upgrade my arti! It was the first one I bought, upgrading it would make me all fuzzy...
Unknown2007-01-18 21:24:24
You get 5% per month, whether you're around or not, which is one of the nice things about them. You don't play for a few days, and you're still getting power. I know that most people who have these are probably playing a lot and using a lot of power, but still... I agree that it would be nice to be able to actually draw power above 100% with a powerplex jewel. I'd consider buying one, if that was the case.

You wouldn't know it the way some of the Orgs ration their power! laugh.gif

But yeah, I think being able to draw a bove 100% would be nifty if you bought that arti too.

While the concept of a portable power source is interesting, it should be implemented in a way that it doesn't imbalance the game.

Maybe something like this?

CODE
xh, ym, ze ex-i
You are holding a glistening, star-shaped vial in your left hand...
xh, ym, ze ex-p vial
This vial is specially crafted to hold the celestial energies of the Pool of Stars. Blahblahblah.
It holds 50% reserves in it.
xh, ym, ze ex-channel vial
Lifting the vial up to your lips, you draw the smallest sip from it. The waters from the vial splash in your mouth, and you feel a warmth radiating throughout your body.
xh, ym, ze x-
You have recovered equilibrium.
xh, ym, ze ex-p vial
This vial is specially crafted to hold the celestial energies of the Pool of Stars. Blahblahblah.
It holds 49% reserves in it.
xh, ym, ze ex-link pool to vial
You place a star-shaped vial in the Pool of Stars and slowly let it sink into its depths.
xh, ym, ze ex-
A star-shaped figure in the Pool of Stars glows gently, and flows to the top, filled with water.
You take a star-shaped vial from the Pool of Stars and put its stopper back on.
...
...
...
xh, ym, ze ex-p vial
This vial is specially crafted to hold the celestial energies of the Pool of Stars. Blahblahblah.
It holds 0% reserves in it.
xh, ym, ze ex-link pool to vial
You place a star-shaped vial in the Pool of Stars and slowly let it sink into its depths.
xh, ym, ze ex-
A star-shaped figure in the Pool of Stars bobs into the water, catching some of it.
A star-shaped vial glows.
xh, ym, ze ex-unlink pool from vial
Satisfied with the amount of water currently in the vial, you retrieve it from the Pool of Stars and put its stopper back on.

Yeah, I was thinking it's somewhat along the lines of a portable power supply, less than a remote-control powerlink.
