Illusions Specializations

Back to Ideas.

Before, Illusions didn't really need specializations, because all mages had them. Now, however bards also get the option of choosing Illusions... but it's not really a viable choice for them (especially compared to Tarot).

Therefore, I propose some kind of specializations. Not for the reason above, just because I want more skills damnit! biggrin.gif

Ideas?

(Edit): Actually, interesting point, I've just realized that Druids and Mages both get Dreamweaving, and that's not specialized. Add specializations there too!
Shiri2007-01-19 14:52:52
There's already going to be specialisations. They were announced right as bards came out.
Unknown2007-01-19 14:57:36
Oh?! ohmy.gif
Any info on what they're gonna be?
Please, for the love of god, don't say the cliched 'Light and Dark' specializations...

I'd like a Reality and an Unreality set, causing physical and mental afflictions respectively. That would be cool. Summoning giant hammers to smash limbs, and being able to create illusory clones...
Noola2007-01-19 14:59:41
I just really hope that Mages don't lose the ability to actually create illusions... I think I remember Estarra saying that Mages would be more mental phantasm freak you out kinda stuff where-as Bards would be more typical illusiony stuff...

I'll be sad if I can't make seagulls attack Vanthan or a family of ducks traipse past the Pool of Stars now and then. sad.gif

Glamours and uh...

Phantasms? I'm sure one of them was glamours.

That would literally make me cry like a little girl.
I think if bards could actually impersonate people, and change their gender and stuff, it would make sense. I think that both Mages and Bards should be able to choose between a 'combat' and 'performance' skillset though, not restrict them between classes.

Dramatics does both of these, actually. Although it would be nice to have a skill to impersonate a person's actions and description, rather than just their voice.

Why should Mages get performance specs, now that we have Bards? Beyond, "I'm a Mage, and I want to perform"?

Why is that not a good reason?

I don't care... as long as I can do some form of illusion weaving, even if it's just the most simplistic one. Though I love improved for things like making flowers bloom and then turn into colorful birds that fly away. wub.gif Though, if Mages lose the ability to do fireworks before Noola learns it and gets to shoot off at least one firework... sad.gif

Bards should get a Chameleonesque skill at the least. Perhaps a trans skill to fully impersonate someone's actions (though you'd need to then be targetable by their name). Maybe a way to create an illusion of yourself somewhere to throw off scrying.

Shirath2007-01-19 20:12:37
Aaah, I'm definetly liking where this is going...

Specialized illusion-related skills... Triple yay!!

I already knew that tehre were Illusions Specs in the works, but Sylphas, I am in love with those ideas. drool.gif

The Glamours specialization really needs an instakill to help out Commune Bards. A stylish instakill would be you create a glamour that makes them believe they have become their worst enemy and thus kill themselves in order to stop this horrible turn of events. Also I had an idea of something where you create an illusionary exit that takes them into a maze that they have to escape from.
Sylphas2007-01-19 22:42:24
Mazing someone would kick so much ass.
