So, I was checking out HELP ARTIFACTS MISC, well, more like I've been looking at it for IC YEARS now, and I'm wondering... Why is the Jeweler's hammer so much more expensive than all the other trade artifacts? It can't be that it helps that much more with not spending as much money, because if the quill produces unlimited magic ink... that saves a lot of money, too. So, I'm thinking, couldn't the hammer cost be lowered to 400 credits, the same cost as the poisoner's gloves? I've noticed that there are very few people in the realms that actually own a hammer, and even fewer that are actually active. Could the unbalanced cost be the underlying reason? I understand that all artifacts are going to be expensive, but it seems odd that one trade is singled out above all the rest for expense.

I'm not sure about the validity of your point about not many people having jewellers' hammers as compared to other tradeskills. I would be surprised if proportionately there's much difference - I certainly used to have one when I was a jeweller, and I can think of some others who do as well.. though many don't advertise the fact, as it's extraordinarily irritating to be constantly bothered by requests to borrow it.

I'd add that it's a very useful artifact to have. Does it triple the number of gems you cut? Something like that... so in terms of earning, that makes a huge difference to a jeweller's profit margins... as well as significantly speeding the process of cutting, if you're looking for a certain number of a certain gem.

Edit: I'm posting at work, so every 20 seconds I'm minimising this and pretending that I'm earning my wage. End result: my posts end up not making any sense. Now, that would be fine if these forums weren't so crap and laggy - because then I could edit the damn post and be done with it. But I can't. /rant

Just as a note, the jeweller's hammer really hurts competition from those without a hammer, much more so than many of the other artifacts. A jeweller with a hammer can sell jewels at a much lower base price to "break even," then save the powerstones for pure profit, while a jeweller without a hammer has to sell the jewels at a higher base price (thus selling quite a few less, and thus being able to afford fewer gems in order to search for more gems/powerstones).

Given that the hammer does have a pretty heavy market impact which results in drastically reduced prices by those with a hammer, I don't expect its price to be reduced.
