Riding a mount and having the defence skill while bashing gives you a 15% damage protection...
Soll2007-01-25 19:42:42
... Is this proven, or are you asking for it to -be- proved?
Daganev2007-01-25 19:45:48
asking.
Unknown2007-01-25 20:32:57
Aren't you one of all...7? of the elite that actually has riding? Go go beaten a lot while riding.
Daganev2007-01-25 21:26:55
I do'nt have the resources to calculate such things properly.
Vix2007-01-25 22:33:11
Just let someone kick you a few times riding and not riding...

Damage from player doesn't equal damage from bashing. I don't think riding defence helps against mobs, which is what he wants to test.
Razenth2007-01-26 00:36:38
I don't think it does either. I've noticed no change.

CODE
ab riding defence
While upon your steed, you will have a greater chance of avoiding physical
blows. The greater your skill in riding and the stronger your mount, the more
defence will be afforded you.

Just so people know what its -supposed- to do.
I just realized its not supposed to reduce damage at all. Silly people and their silly rumours.
I think I can safely say

You, like, started your own rumour

No, some low level guild members did, asking me if the defense bonus from riding helped against blunt or just cutting.
Tandrin2007-01-26 02:40:28
Can anyone verify that you are hit less often while mounted if you have the skill?
Unknown2007-01-26 06:37:57
I've noticed no difference of an hour bswing mounted vs unmounted.
Until there is an artifact saddle that stops you being knocked off unless you are jousted you'd be silly to bash while riding as the occasional loss of balance from being knocked off can be fatal against big mobs.

So what does the defence ability in riding do? Nothing?

Increased dodging against Warriors, as far as I know.
Gelo2007-01-26 10:55:43
Orly?
Is this confirmed?
Is this confirmed?

In all other IREs, dodging works against many, many classes. Here, it's just warriors. I have a feeling it's just like it is in other IREs. All other IREs also have an avoidance skill that effects your chance to dodge. We have resilience instead.

Except that its been envoyed and ideaed many, many times.

In other IRE games you have a chance to dodge physical attacks based on dex, avoidance, and other factors. Here, warriors have a set accuracy rate under normal circumstances. Dex helps you dodge only in the sense that it increases the chance that your stance will work. I'm not sure, but I think quicksilver also only affects stances rather than overall dodge. So, if riding defense follows the same pattern, it would give a boost to stance instead of overall dodging, but I've heard you can't use stances while mounted.
