Your Character

I was at work (for twelve effing hours, omg die) and had like nothing to think about, so I got to thinking about Lucan and why I love playing him so much. To explain, there's a bit of back-story. Lucan (as well as Maeka) started as a roleplaying plot between Solarus and Everiine. Maeka's player and I actually knew Solarus in Aetolia, and she asked us one day if we'd like to start playing Lusternia as her children. We agreed, but it would be several weeks later before she would tell us we could create our characters.

With me, most of my characters start of as spur-of-the-moment ideas, I don't really have time in the intro to think of who I want them to be. With Lucan, I had a few weeks to start thinking about his personality, what he would be like after being left to fend for himself and his twin sister for 16 years. I came up with the completely untrusting, proud, arrogant and cynical bastard people know as Lucan. Maeka, conversely, turned into a sweet, innocent, carefree woman, pretty much the opposite of her brother, but they're both much more alike than it would seem.

I really like the thought and time I put into deciding what Lucan's character would be like. He's my favourite of my IRE charas (I've played all four games) because I feel like he has more depth since I had a lot of time to decide on what sort of depth to give him.

My question to you all is this: what makes you love your character? What motivates you to get on Lusternia each day as Doman or Daganev, Xenthos or Elysiana, or just some random face-in-the-crowd chara? Even if your not some big Commune or City leader, what makes you love your character enough to say each day, "This is who I want to play"?
Richter2007-02-01 06:16:32
I love my character because of his rich history, and how newbies to Lusternia come up to me and say, "I've heard of you!" That actually happens a lot, it gives me a smile each time. I suppose there's other things too, but we'll save that for a later time.

I only get that if they have been talking to Hallen, with the added, "I'm not supposed to talk to you." losewings.gif

yay.gif A chance to talk about my character!! Let's see...

Reiha was created with no RP in mind, except that she was a quiet, submissive, timid girl. She was mostly created because I wanted to see what it was like RPing a girl - as a guy, nobody really talked to me, and people were a lot harsher when I made mistakes. I was just amazed how much more friendly people ended up being towards her, and left my main who was worth 3000 credits to be her full time. If I hadn't started her, I would have quite Lusternia out of boredom. Friendship and conversation plays a great role for my enjoyment here. She has a great family and community, and I love interacting with the Mag citizens as well as those of opposing orgs. In addition, I really like her name and toys.

I wonder how people view her personality chin.gif She's certainly become more crazy and opinionated since leaving the portals, but that can't be helped.

I love my char because he's old and well-known-ish
Ildaudid2007-02-01 07:10:53
I love my character because I actually think no one loves him at all smile.gif

dry.gif Despite how many times I have tried to murder him, I do! wub.gif
Verithrax2007-02-01 07:15:12
I loved Verithrax because he was one of very few, or the only original thinker in the game - He could act under a motivation wholly different from everyone else's, and on occasion, even rally people to agree with him.
Shryke2007-02-01 07:25:38
Verithax, play or go home, quit trolling you evil bastard.
Verithrax2007-02-01 07:41:08
...I was serious...
Arix2007-02-01 07:52:03
I like Arix because of the shocking variety of things he has managed to get away with that nobody knows about
Lucan2007-02-01 07:52:22
Bah, I hate answers like "Because my character is really powerful/well-known." That's the kind of thing I would love to say, but no one knows me, so it bugs me when others say it...yes, I know, I'm stupid and jealous. sleep.gif I think there should be a better reason to love your character though other than "Everyone else does."

Reiha, I love your explanation. I think it's great that you decided to try something different rather than just saying, "I'm bored" and going off to World of Warcraft or something.
Arel2007-02-01 09:03:41
I like Arel, because randomly choosing to be a lucidian when I created him made for some awesome roleplay later on. Just being lucidianish is awesome, because I think it's something that's unique to roleplay. I also like how he's changed from being the submissive, plotting Nihilist to the thinking, outgoing, generally honest Harbinger. He isn't well known despite being on the Shadow Court in Glom (at least I don't think he's well know... correct me if I'm wrong), but the people who do know him generally respect him.
Nerra2007-02-02 03:23:20
My fav. point is her innocent/sexual exterrior that had blended completely with her bloodcrazy fascination with fighting.

She's in probably in her "third" developemental phase. At first she was passionate, firey, and REALLY emotional, then she got into the fighting stuff, she hardend up as she saw the horrors of the world. Now she's quiet (comparatively) and slowly taking after her hero, Shikari and what she thinks Gwylifar was like. To her, they were probably very similar though smile.gif She has three layers now- her outwards facade that really doesn't let people know at all what she's thinking that most people see, her inner fire that shows up when she's challenged, and the scared girl inside who is tearing herself up inside.
She has a lot of issues, and I'm trying to tone down her intelligence and use smaller words, but I keep failing >_<. She's SUPPOSED to be not -too- bright, but "wise," and her philosophy of life is so full of whole it's resembles swiss cheese. Still, in the end she is a sweet girl and I love her to bits!
Shishi2007-02-02 03:42:55
my character was created because Richter said hey, you should play this, I said ok and came out and was really bored for a while, so I left and when I came back I decided to try and get involved in things I got involved with novices (thanks to Xenthos) and Shishi started to actually have a personality besides hey kill that whatever it is. I eventually became a rogue and started to love being able to talk to everyone without anyone caring at all, helping novices from every org. What keeps me around now is all my lovely friends who actually have intelligent conversations with him giving him motivation to do many different things and make him feel accepted and loved. Along with helping random people out with their problems. I've got to say if I didn't have all these people giving me something to do I might have to do the unthinkable and actually join an organization again.

EDIT: oh and being able to randomly go up and have conversations with random people keeps me goin too
Astraea2007-02-02 04:43:23
Astraea is special to me because she's a contradiction. She's a member of Glomdoring and loves it, and yet deep inside of her, someplace where she'd never let anyone in, she yearns to give the forest the superficial makeover that she believes the Wyrd did to its essence--She wants a Gloriana-looking forest back, essentially.

I love that she's obsessed with the fae and Ethereal, and Mother Night. I love that she really truly believes that the fae are to be revered and loved, and that the fae who wish for Moon are only confused, and she has to protect them. I love that she thinks all this despite having to use derision/mockery/teasing to get fae, and ignores their being dragged forth from the shadows. I love that she treats her fae better than herself. I especially love that she doesn't fight back when someone attacks her in Faethorn, and instead spits out insults prior to, and after her death, only to return to influencing fae, graced, while the Seren are still lingering in Faethorn.

I love that Astraea is a Shadow Faeling. I love that the Shadowdancers are so cool, and we've had the luck to have competent leaders, when many of Glom's guilds have suffered from the direct opposite in the past.

I love that Astraea knows Mother Moon is tainted, beyond a shadow of a doubt. (Watch for a scholarly book on this to be published in the future, she's working on it now)

I love that Astraea is a passive Shadowdancer, and in general, very cordial and peaceful, and how her very skills and surroundings contrast that.

I love that Astraea slew the tae'dae cubs because she thought it'd be good emotional warfare on the Seren.

I love that Astraea has a lot of trans skills. wub.gif

I love that underneath her silent exterior, she has emotions and she gets upset when Krellan kills her, or happy when she talks to Viravain, or anxious when villages revolt. I love that Astraea hates what the Glomdoring looks like, likes the Raven persona more than Crow, and secretly harbors a very big respect for Rowena, but will never tell anyone (Except for the last part, Rowena -is- pretty cool.)

I love that Astraea likes Father Sun because of His love for Mother Night, and doesn't hate Him because lolz h3 is lite and Muther Nite is darc.

I love a lot more stuff about her, and I even am annoyed at a few things. But overall, I love the character I've been able to create within Lusternia.
Athana2007-02-02 04:48:25
I like Athana because new people come in and have this mindset of how Magnagorans are supposed to be cruel and uncaring, but I think I surprise a lot of them. smile.gif

That's really awesome. Lucan's sort of the same, he prides himself on being unTainted and follows the Raven persona of Crow. He doesn't hate any commune or city in particular, he hates what he calls "Monsters," those with no empathy who show no remorse for their actions and who hurt for the sake of hurting. He considers a lot of Serenwilde to be monsters, but he knows that not all of them are, as his family almost solely resides there.
Veonira2007-02-02 05:06:43
I enjoy playing Veonira because while she's generally helpful and friendly (mainly to novices, I suppose that comes with the territory of being a GA and trying to recruit new members), she is always willing to either lie her ass off and manipulate people to get what she wants or needs, and she can be surprisingly heartless and cruel with people who cross her, which is something that just sort of developed with her. I think she's one of those people who just doesn't take no for an answer and will exhaust all options until she finally has to give up or gets what she wants.

I suppose the other thing that I enjoy about her is how much she contrasts with my Achaean character. My character on Achaea never shut up, was known to be outrageous, shameless, and would run around sturring up trouble, while Veonira is typically quiet and doesn't bother with speaking to people (ICly of course) unless it's necessary. It's totally different than how I am in real life for the most part.

Both of those coming together, I enjoy playing Veonira because she's really -not me-. Of course in more private settings in the game she'll be silly, but she's way more serious than I am. It's fun because it's not even something I do intentionally, it just sort of started when I first created her way back when, and I just assume the role whenever I log in. Oh and finally I like her because she is my first character to ever be trusted with responsibilities and respected tongue.gif.
Lucan2007-02-02 05:09:27
I would really love for Lucan to become someone great in the Ebonguard, but with all of the already great people there, I just can't see it happening. I wanted to start a tribe for crafters/tradesmen, but all that could really be done with it is give people a place to peddle their wares and others a place to come for wares. sleep.gif If anyone has any ideas about how that idea could be expanded upon, let me know. I'm pretty much useless to the Ebonguard right now because I can't fight for crap.
Unknown2007-02-02 07:41:35
Aww, you're not useless. Even just showing up on GWHO and CWHO helps a bunch for morale, especially for Glomdoring. I get so happy when I see more than 5 Shadowdancers and more than 10 Glomdorians. And don't worry, I can't fight either, and all I can do is to be a meat shield. happy.gif But I like to think that I'm useful.

Unlike Veonira, I like my character because he is so similar to me. Mostly it is because I'm not a very good actor, so the best character I can play is myself, but other than that, I get to imagine myself in situations that will likely never happen in real life, but has helped me improve myself. Like for example, when I got really mad at Krellan OOCly for killing me in a raid, I thought over about it and then realised that actually, I shouldn't have been angry at Krellan for doing it. In a sense, Caerulo is sort of like a personality simulator for me.

I also like Caerulo, because he's a quiet kind of guy, but occasionally likes to talk (like me smile.gif ), and I get to back that personality up with Night's teachings.

I also like Caerulo's fascination with words (I like etymology), so much so that he picked Bookbinding just for Languages.

I like the fact that Caerulo -doesn't- think Night is tainted. Don't ask him why though, he still hasn't worked out exactly why.

I like that Caerulo respects Sun, because he's the only one who can chase Night.
