I'm not a big person in the emo/pop/punk scene, but these guys are pretty dang good at what they do . No wonder those girls scream so much!
Their new CD Infinity on High just came out (by Fall Out Boy). I have to say, I was pretty impressed. The lyrics have a lot of literary elements and I'm surprised their label company didn't make them dumb their lyrics down (considering this music is written for preteen girls ). Catchy tunes. And the lead singer has a good voice that is unique compared to other pop/punk bands. He doesn't whine with the song, he adds another good layer to it. I'd probably put this CD in rock genre, though it has almost hip-hop and R&B beats.
For when I'm feeling mad or somewhat serious, I like a deep bass and will listen to stuff like Usher, Outkast, Jay-Z... romantic or sad moods are often met with Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Howie Day, Jamie Cullum, instrumental Philip Glass, or soundtracks from movies like The Good Shepherd. Funny hyper moods, usually met with some Group X, Green Day, The Fray, and just... a TON of other bands and people. I'm finding myself getting rather fond of this Fall Out Boy band.
What about some of the rest of your music tastes? List some stuff, preferably matched to your moods.

Connie Francis
Fergie, Gwen Stefani, The Carpenters, The Cranberries, Rolling Stones, Roberta Flack, early Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Mary J Blige, Grandmaster Flash, Justin Timberlake, Goldfrapp, Evanescence, ACDC, Beck, Beyonce, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Panic! At the Disco, Prince, Paris Hilton (Shut up!), Pussycat Dolls, Salt 'n' Peppa, The Smiths, Fleetwood Mack, Violent Femmes. And then I have some specialized songs I like. I Will Survive, Ain't no Sunshine, William Shatner's Common People , Timewarp. But really. Let's get to the important stuff.
Abba.
I love Abba.
I listen to Abba in EVERY mood. I listen to Connie Francis when I'm feeling wistful, Panic! At the Disco when I'm feeling crazy, William Shatner's Common people when I'm feeling whimsical, Paris Hilton when I'm feeling way bubblegum, Salt'n'Peppa when I feel all cool, Pussycat Dolls and Justin Timberlake and Beyonce and Mary J Blige for when I'm feeling all excited, Gwen Stefani and Fergie when I'm in a -really- good mood. The rest I just cycle through depending on my varying levels of emoness-to-happiness. Though, I'll listen to Fleetwood Mack's 'Gypsy' almost as much as Abba. And Connie Francis is pretty popular for all emotions with me too.
So yeah.

Bob Dylan, the Beatles, the Stones, Led, Pink Floyd, Focus, Rush, Joe Satriani, Queen, Iron Maiden, Blind Guardian.
And Jethro Tull. Lots and lots and lots of Jethro Tull. I own seven different Tull albums, plus two albums of orchestral arrangements of Tull songs - One live with Ian Anderson, and one studio, with just the London Symphony Orchestra and Tull members doing only relatively minor cameos.

Also, much love for Ennio Morricone's music.

I'm listening to a lot of dancy music lately. Pretty much anything on the Ministry of Sound compilations is something I'll go for .
Other than that, Tori Amos is always a sure thing in my musical diet.
Since everyone else is doing large lists:
Tori Amos, The Dresden Dolls, Jack Colwell, Tv Rock, Rogue Traders, Sarah McLeod, Sneaky Sound System, Scissor Sisters, Basement Jaxx, The Freemasons, Bodyrox, Beyonce, James Morrison, The Gossip, The Knife, The Grates, Patrick Wolf, Kylie Minogue, The Fray, Evanescence, Alanis Morissette, Damien Rice, Gwen Stefani, Tina Cousins, Panic At The Disco.

You make a good point. They are categorized as being a pop/punk/emo band, but they... don't sound like it. They've got punk elements and pop elements and rock elements, and more elements with this new CD. It's pretty neat how they throw their music together.
And you listed some good bands. Catch 22 and Mad Caddies... good choices.

Used to listen to a lot of metal, these days I'm more into the electronic stuff. Got lots of EBM, lately taking a liking towards drum & bass though. My music taste however is much more broad than that, what matters to me is that is sounds good and I can find myself in it. Also, if you like a certain band, try looking it up at last.fm, their similar band function has made me discover a lot of interesting new stuff already.
Here's a random list of good bands from you to pick from:
Suicide commando, 3 doors down, aeternitas, after forever, aphex twin, apocalyptica, after forever, arch enemy, autumn, blind guardian, children of bodom, combichrist, cradle of filth, dimmu borgir, dioxyde, dragonforce, dulce liquido, evanescence, finntroll, fractured, high contrast, him, hocico, kamelot, lacrimosa, linkin park, machinae supremacy, metallica, mindless self indulengence, moby, muse, my dying bride, nightwish, nine inch nails, paradise lost, pendulum, placebo, prodigy, rammstein, the rasmus, rob zombie, roni size, sirenia, slagsmalsklubben, sonata arctica, system of a down, tactical sekt, theatre of tragedy, tristania, velvet acid christ, vnv nation, within temptation.

I prefer rock, alternative or industrial music myself. I'm going to just copy my facebook music...
Three Days Grace, Thrice, Muse, Evanescence, Justin Timberlake, Jump Little Children, Shakira, Kelly Clarkson, Celldweller, Ingram Hill, Massive Attack, Kidney Thieves, NiN, 10 Years, Our Lady Peace, Papa Roach, The Postal Service, Relient K, Saliva, Fort Minor, Eve 6, Coheed & Cambria, Breaking Benjamin, Incubus, Avril Lavigne, Michelle Branch, Rob Thomas, Trust Company, Muse
I think that's a pretty accurate snapshot of my playlists, but I have a lot more music. I also love teenie bopper music like BSB, Nick Lachey and 'N Sync still, it never gets old.
The only music I really can't stand most of the type is most R&B/hip hop that's not on the radios, country, and most punk bands. As for matching it to my moods, I listen to pop/hip hop when I'm in the mood to dance around or before I go out and rock bands and what not when I'm walking to class or doing homework.

Ooo, Alkaline Trio, nice pick.
I think about the only music I can't take is Japanese music. Most of my friends are Anime/Manga obsessive and they all went to Japan and take Japanese classes and speak Japanese to each other... it gets old after a while. Really, really old. And stuff like Dir en Grey. Power to them, but that stuff just sounds weird...

I have a wider range of music taste than most of the stuff above. Just don't knock it until you try it.
On the poppish end, there's Eminem, Akon, Blue October, KT Tunstall ( Suddenly I See), Red Hot Chili Peppers (I strongly recommend getting Stadium Arcadium, throwing away the Mars disc, and playing Jupiter for a month solid), or Train.
A lot of my favorite rock bands are locals. 311 might be the only one you can find in heathen territory. If you're up for looking, there's also the Fishheads, Undecided?, and Narcotic Self--they have actual published CDs. Names that you're more likely to know are Tool, Incubus, Three Days Grace, and Hinder.
On the country channels, there's Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood, Faith Hill, Kenny Chesney, and of course, Garth Brooks, or a smattering of tolerable songs from otherwise intolerable artists. It's a hit-and-miss genre. They put out some great songs, but 75% of what hits Billboard's country charts just isn't palatable to my ear.
The best rappers are dead, unfortunately. The late 90's has some good stuff. Look up "Hypnotize" and "Changes."
