This is why the Divine aren't allowed to have accounts

I'd like to think that the admins here have more restraint than those of other games, but I suppose it only takes one incident to cast suspicion on all the admins, and to ruin the relationship the players have with them. So I guess I'd like to take this opportunity to applaud IRE for holding this policy strictly, even to Soll who ascended to Divinity without taking the path of an Ephemeral.

edit: In retrospect, if there's a better forum location, feel free to move it there, of course.

No - This is why we don't let arseholes be Divine.

We don't, right? Right?

ETA: Move this to Real World.

Yeah, you have to have a serious level of maturity to hold the role.

Whenever the Hajamin incident is brought up (where he tried to alter another order's powers via his code access), I still see people wondering if he did anything else to affect things in the game--people would wonder if he hacked such as combat vs Magnagora, etc. It's that kind of act that makes players distrust the developers when they also have an in-game role.

As far as I know, no Divine has ever really been like that in this game.

Well then, stop bringing it up.

And yes, this kind of thing is typical of a lot of the larger MMOs. Smaller communities are usually excluded from the more obvious bad goings-on.

About half of that article I couldn't understand. All I know is that some cheating was going on from admins and some hacker uncovered it and was banned. Other than that, I'm a bit lost. I never played EVE and some of the terms used in that article went right over my head. Maybe it's just too early...

It's vastly more difficult to keep a very large, probably underpaid staff in check than it is to keep three people who are very financially invested in the game and a batch of volunteers in check.

About half of that article I couldn't understand.
It would be like if Elders could hand out Arti's and if Vira handed out a FULL set of artifacts to ten glom members, to give them advantage over other orgs. Or even better still, if Mr. newly-Ascended had the power, and handed out full sets of artifacts to all the Peulus's. This can't happen in Lusternia's system, and Elders have very little they can do. Yes they can zap/mute/TDF you, or encourage their order to smite you, but I'm sure if someone went around spam-zapping a whole other org for some random vengeance (you kill-stole a fink from me when I was a noob mortal!) Estarra would unleash a ravenous hamster army on them.

Actually it sounded like the items given out in the article gave a significant, and irrevocable benefit to said clan. Lusternia doesn't even have such things, as any long-term national benefits (villages, nexus world structures, culture) are easily lost, and have upkeep, through player participation and/or power drain.
Unknown2007-02-11 17:41:04
I think it would be more like if he handed someone several billion gold pieces, threw in a couple thousand credits for each member, and topped the nexus to the maximum amount allowed by the variable size. (maybe not quite to that extent, but something like that.)
Unknown2007-02-11 17:56:37
Actually I'm wrong, Lusternia does have a limited amount of said items in a lesser form, the unique everlasting vials from some of the earlier artifact auctions; and to an even lesser extent manse vial-filling fountains and flower gardens, although these don’t, and can’t give their benefits to a whole clan or nation, merely to one individual.

Actually, that would be amusing to see... because unless they capped it at that amount, the next 1p brought in would roll the nexus around again to 0. This happens with numerous skills and abilities-- once you reach the top variable size, it rolls over again to 0, being unsigned.

Power in a nexus is a signed value though. It'd roll over to negative maximum : P
Anarias2007-02-11 19:28:09
That's not so bad! Its only -1000.
Genevieve2007-02-11 20:35:53
I've never tried to draw from an empty nexus (doesn't exist right now). I wonder what the message is.

"You cannot squeeze any water from a stone, just as you cannot... HEY! You lazy SOB, go gather some power!"
Unknown2007-02-12 08:44:07
For one Folkien I love the pic. And two most of the people now were not around for the incident so it will die. I had a third but I am really tired.
Unknown2007-02-12 17:44:04
It is kind of sad when this happens, yeah. Well, for those of you who might've played Achaea some reallife years ago, might remember the incident with Caspian (at that time the God of Seas). I'm not going to get too much into details about what happened with him, but he did get banned and it ended up deleting the whole Caspian character.

Yeah, there have been several gods removed from "active duty" in the Achaean pantheon as far as I remember, for various sorts of bad behaviour. Caspian just happened (as far as I know) to be the worst, and the most visible. Then again, a few of them have done well enough to be placed in charge of other IRE games.

Gaia was possibly the worst, as she caused a lot of damage (that character seemed to just be bad luck, from my understanding). A lot of damage that character did is still being replaced and fixed. Caspian was just the sickest. Violated a lot of laws regarding minors and webcams, things of that sort. But I don't think he ever gave out free credits or anything.

Oh well, as long as he didn't give out free credits...
