Dunno how many people took the SATs this year, but I'll just throw this up here.. What colleges you think I can get into with this?
2010 total out of 2400, what really matters for those of you who don't know is the first two. Out of 1600. (I got 1420)

Sorreh to say, I took the ACT once (got a 32) and never took the SAT. I have no idea what those SAT numbers mean, but I'm guessing they're pretty high, so I'd say go for a big university...if you have financial aide or the money, apply at the very top and work your way down. Or research what you want to do and pick a good college that specializes in that area. If your GPA, extracurriculars, and SAT scores are high and good, you can get in almost anywhere you want.

My SAT scores six years ago were 800 math, 800 verbal (perfect score), and I failed utterly in college : P As I said six years ago, the SATs are a really crappy test for aptitude or learning ability. All the SATs test is how well you can take SATs.
Unknown2007-02-17 14:11:21
Well, I got a 1250 (on the old one, and two of my verbal pages were stuck together >.<) back in 8th grade...good enough for me.

Those SAT scores will get you a full ride to a few third-tier schools. Central Christian in Kansas comes to mind. Google will get you a list of those.
As far as higher end schools, it depends a lot on 1) your grades, 2) your proposed major, 3) what you've already done in relation to your major, and 4) unrelated extracurriculars. In that order. SAT scores land as 1.5 in that list. Grades still count for more. I found that out the hard way.

SAT/ACT scores are a significant consideration for colleges, but there are so many other factors (a couple touched on above) that it's not the end all be all of how your record looks on paper. If every other aspect of your file was horrid that score would get you into some decent colleges, and if they are good then you could probably get into some top end schools. Anyways, that's a very solid SAT score. Nice job.

Not always true. A friend of mine did well on the SATs and got a lot of bad grades in highschool, but got a full ride to UMBC. He later failed out of UMBC after losing the scholarship, but he *had* a full ride for a while
My advice is to do what it is suggested you do anyways. Apply for two "reach" schools, ones that you'd like to get into, but probably won't, two average schools, ones that are good and you're pretty sure you can get into it, but nothings a sure thing, and two safe schools that let in pretty much anyone, just in case the other four don't work out.
The stats of incoming students for a college are usually available, try looking around on the school's website for them and see how you fall on the range of GPA and SAT scores.

I got 32 on my ACT and 700/700/700 on SAT. With those scores Ciaran have a chance at most of the higher end schools in California (UC Berkely, UCLA, USC) and if your GPA is decent.

Bro, we all know that if Superman wore fullplate and chopped people up into little bits, he would look exactly like you. We love you anyway.
Good advice, too. Selling yourself is very important in a non-literal sense; my wife and I graduated highschool with the same GPA and similar activities, but her SAT totals were only 3/4ths of mine and she had taken less strenuous courses. She still had much better results than I did when she applied to college, and it was because of all the effort she put in to highlighting her accomplishments and marketing herself.

About four years ago, I got a 1280/1600, which everyone said was very good, above average and all of that. I beat most of the other people I knew, but you people who say you're getting perfect scores (which is a bit difficult to believe...) are making me feel all teeny in the brainpower department.
Vix2007-02-17 19:06:23
I haven't even taken my SAT yet. ._.
Although I've just taken my ACT and I feel as if I did well.

People aren't going to share if they did bad.
I got a 1360

Some of us weren't going to share even if we did well.
1550 on the old 1600.
Nico2007-02-17 20:05:50
1490 on the old 1600. Was a good student, ranked 1st for freshmen-junior year. Then senioritis set in and I dropped ranked down to like, 27th. But, that was able to get me some nice scholarships to good schools.
My brother got a 1420 on his, and he ended up going to Cornell.

Took them four times (7th, 8th, 11th, and 12th grades), combined top math and verbal were 1520. Didn't have this newfangled writing section, which I would have done horribly on.
Vionne2007-02-17 20:25:19
1350/1600.
I sort of bombed (to me) the math, like a 750 or something like that on the verbal.

1350/1600. ~700 on the writing.
ACT was 31 (Science was 34). I'm still a senior, but am already enrolled in my college for freshman year.

I got a 33 on the ACT (34 every section except for English) and a 680/670/650 on the SAT.
Razenth2007-02-17 21:17:43
760 Eng, 800 Math, and 680 Writ here. Very good grades also. I checked around, and from what I see, I have no chance of getting into anywhere top tier. So UC Berkely and LA for the win!
