I just installed zmud on my new laptop running vista.
Solved the first problem that gives you an access violation unless you set zmud up to run always as administrator.
Now I can ping lusternia but can't log into it?
Any of you cleverer-than-me type people got any ideas?

Sounds like network problems rather than OS/App problems, but we're talking Vista here, so what do I know. Short answer: Microsoft screwed you over. Wait for a patch. Long answer: Microsoft has been screwing you over for years. Install Linux and free yourself from the shackles of monopoly yadda yadda.
Can you connect using another client?

Zugg says he's not supporting Windows Vista and people need to upgrade to CMUD for that support.
CMUDs in beta, and I think upgrade pricing is available.

does cmud still run old zmud scripts? i'd hate to start again
Callia2007-03-02 16:13:32
Not at this point, CMUD has a new script base. You can however do what I have done (assuming you have the harddrive space, and partition your hard drive, and run XP and Vista. This allows you to run stuff like zMud, and a few other applications that don't run as well on Vista yet.) And despite what Verithrax and his self-righteousness believe, Vista is actually pretty good, so I wouldn't kick it to the curb.

Cmud can acccept most Zmud scripts. They just require minor tweeking.

and that is only because cmud is bugged to nil and back. Cmud as main client is not really a choice yet.

Huh?
Zugg specifically said that the idea was that you can port over your zmud scripts but would have to make minor tweaks for the more complicated ones.
though to be honest, I havn't looked at it since the third beta release

there are several functions not working as they should (and as been reported on the beta forum) this is one of the main reasons you can not import properly yet, the code is transfered correctly (if you tweak a bit) but it will simply not work as intended until function like #add are fixed.
Daganev2007-03-02 17:11:18
Ahh, I thought you were saying that porting over scripts only worked because there were bugs, not the opposite.
I'm surprised there are so many still. What have they been doing this whole time?

#add works... I've used it for some of my simple cMud triggers when I've been exploring cMud's utility.

I did not test simple scripts on it, but when I created a new powerscript on it the stuff messes up, and I'm not the only one experiencing it. The add function is not the only problem though, I would honoustly say it's still beta.

I wouldn't recommend running zMUD on Vista or switching to CMUD on any OS. CMUD isn't technically in beta (although Zugg said something about wanting to call 1.25 a beta version, even though 1.24 was a public release), but it isn't ready for any heavy duty scripting yet, either. Any suitably complex combat system will not transfer from zMUD to CMUD without a plethora of problems, and in my efforts to write a completely brand new combat system for CMUD, I've uncovered a fair amount of bugs in the client. Some of the bugs are deterministic and some are just "it crashed (or just completely failed to do what I expected), but who has any idea why?" bugs.
Unknown2007-03-03 08:52:32
running "netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disable" from the windows command prompt fixed it .. whatever that does ..
Linaeve2007-03-03 23:55:13
The only thing I can say about this is that I got Vista along with a new computer and had issues at first with the same error running Zmud. I set it to administrator and haven't had an issue since. Maybe some will arise eventually, but I've been using it this way for a month with no problem. Zugg does say to use it at your own risk, though.
Unknown2007-03-05 17:39:35
How many other people are having problems with zMUD running on Vista?
I've got the Vista upgrade coming in the mail soon, so I need to prepare up-front before installing it. Is it worth setting up a separate partition solely for zMUD, or does Vista have a compatibility mode or something where it runs without so many problems?
I plan to just upgrade to Vista and deal with whatever issues come up when they come up, but I don't want to screw myself out of being able to fight anymore until cMUD is fixed up.

If you downloaded zMUD recently enough than CMUD is free.

Yes, it does have quite a few bugs and I would still consider it a beta and I would definitely not recommend trying to transfer any scripts over. But I would not claim it to be unusable for heavy scripting as I wrote a complex system from scratch for it and have been successfully using it for several months with crashes being exceedingly rare. It's just a matter of figuring out the quirks and accomodating for them. Takes patience but once you have it figured out, it is very nice.
