I'm looking for an estimate of how much time and effort it would take to code my own system for CMUD, and what people I might be able to poke for help. Thoughts? Tips? Suggestions? Horror stories?

I'm going to shamelessly bump myself so this gets seen. Darn Jello! Stealing my visibility!

I would give yourself 2 weeks.
As soon as I'm able ot have 2 weeks myself, I'll help anybody.

But seriously, try my C++ program when it comes out in like a week. I'm writing my final paper for a philosophy class today and tomorrow and seeing my girlfriend off the day after that, but it shouldn't take me too much longer to complete. It's going to be a program that takes your input of what order you want afflictions cured and then outputs a nested #if statement in zmud script that you can cut and paste through your buffer to create a system. The skeleton of the program is already done, I just need to plug all of the affliction messages into it basically.

Nested #IF is not the best way to make a system, in my humble opinion. Besides, he's looking to learn the scripting and build a full system for himself, not a program to auto-generate pieces of a system for him.
If you're very familiar with zMUD already, I'd say it'll take you a week or so to gradually learn the nuances of CMUD (new commands, stricter parsing, packages, etc) and start on a system. If you're a pretty novice coder, allow more time, obviously.
In either case, I highly recommend reading Zugg's pinned posts and knowledge base articles on what's new in CMUD and what users of zMUD need to know. Use the Zuggsoft forums and these forums for questions and tips.
