I am expecting that nobody will really know the answer to this, but that's never stopped me from asking questions before.
My basic problem is that I can log in, surf around the forums and maybe even post once, but then suddenly (and seemingly randomly) I am no longer logged in, and have to re-login to do anything. This actually happens with all of the forums I visit, along with Utopia (a web-based game). I have the same problem using IE or Netscape (haven't tried Firefox yet), even if I add forums.lusternia.com to my secure site list and allow all cookies from this site.
Does anyone have any idea how these forums store login sessions? I assume it must be some kind of cookie somewhere that's disappearing, but I can't figure out where it is or what's keeping it from working.

Most anything on the internet that "saves" your information to keep you from having to log in over and over again uses Cookies to do so. You should check your settings on your browsers to make sure they're not systematically deleting them after a certain amount of time and you should check other programs like SpySweeper, McAfee, Norton, PestPatrol, etc to make sure they are not deleting cookies either. I know SpySweeper is very very very aggressive about deleting cookies and usually does not distinguish between the good and bad if you don't have it set up properly.

I like the CookieCuller extension. Anything you haven't whitelisted is trashed after you close your browser.

So far as I can tell, this particular forum uses a combination of cookies and IP logging. Your problem might be a rotating IP.
When I log onto the forums from another computer in this house, I need to log back in on this computer.
When I log onto the forums from my work laptop, using whatever signal is strong enough to reach the street, I need to log back in on this computer. Further, if I pull it up from another network, even though I'm on the same computer, I need to log back in.
When I use this computer exclusively, I very rarely need to log back in, but it does happen.

This does seem to be part of it (I use multiple computers, which contribute to the problem). I also am apparently having problems keeping the cookies in place. It seems to happen exactly every five minutes, I lose my active sessions on any forums/games/etc currently open and have to log in again. I'm not loosing all of my cookies, though, my cookies folder fills up pretty nicely unless I manually remove them. I'm also not sure what the culprit is; I don't use SpySweeper. I am in the process of replacing BitDefender, so I'll have to try to dig and figure out what the issue actually is.
