It's bugged me that Dreamweavers can see everything in a room, EXCEPT for custom emotes.

Heh, that's not the only thing a bit off with dreamweavers. You should've seen all of the campaigning Elryn had to do in the beginning. From what I understand, the code for dreamweavers is long, complex, and difficult to use, but it would be nice if dreamweavers could see custom emotes.
Aiakon2007-04-22 18:34:04
Why?
So they can link to a happy pair of would-be mudsexxors and follow em back to manse, missing nothing?
I don't see that dreamweavers missing custom emotes is a major problem. Not half as much a problem as a furiously embarrased Ashteru.

Missing what denizens say and do is more frustrating in my opinion. You can forget about using dreamweaving during any kind of event or happening that involves a talking denizen.

Well, think. Why can you see predefined emotes, but not custom? That makes absolutely no sense from an in-character perspective and should be fixed, despite the mudsex possibility, for the reason of completion.
It's like having a car that can go 200 MPH but only has three wheels.

I agree that, from a consistency standpoint, it doesn't make much sense to see one but not the other. Also, there are some RP possibilities (and now, all of a sudden, I'm thinking about the mudsex comment) where it might be helpful to see custom emotes.

It is nothing at all like that.

In other words, Dreamweaving is useless for spying or eavesdropping.

But if your three wheeled car can go at 200 mph, it sounds a hell of a lot better than my battered Ford Fiesta.

You're not supposed to talk about bugs on the forums. That's what we have the BUG command for *gaspnowai* .

There was a really cool encounter with me and Anaria when we went to see Raven when Crow was temporarily cleansed during the new years event. We were in dreamform, of course, and people detected us right after we arrived, and we started running away when Brennan yelled out for us to come back.
Crow then, in theory, said something to us, but we didn't hear it. All the Gloms there were very silent, but I think it was because they were custom emoting. Then Crow cawed, and left. I can only theorize that stuff was happening that we were supposed to be seeing, but we never saw it.
So, it really isn't just "mudsex reasons" that people would want this "feature."
On a side note, you can't hear Envoys while in dreamform, but Envoys who check ENVOYWHO still see you as online and on channel. This was always a pain in the butt when I was an Envoy, but I never got around to Envoying it to change =P
I had a whole list somewhere on the Envoy wiki of things dreamweaves couldn't do and should be able to. It included checking DRL, which lists what is in your dreamcatchers, II, and OBSERVE. You can glance, but you can't observe - very irritating when trying to track someone down. You can check INV, but not II - it was very irritating in certain situations for me.
Don't get me started on the communications issues that will always be there, which make Ecology (and Crow, for that matter) a FAR better skillset for spying, which I always felt was the primary province and draw of Dreamweaving =p

I'm still going through your stuff.. but I've had some fixes I've wanted in as well so I've worked on those. I'll get to it eventually.

I never envoyed it because it was such a low priority thing. You may want to put something in too for dreamweavers to communicate with each other at a distance while dreamweaving, as long as you remember that Estarra has said that dreamweavers will NEVER be able to communicate with waking people except via dreamspeak (same room only).
Coordination between 'weavers requires you to use OOC means of communication, which I've had to resort to once or twice due to the abysmal state of things, much to my vast regret.

Good times! Here's what that encounter with Raven sort of looked like for us.
We go to the Ravenwood, get spotted, start to run, get to the larder and hear:
Then nothing for a moment more and then this:

Brennan Stormcrow yells, "Raven requests your presence dream beings."
So we go back, sit there at the Ravenwood with the Glooms waiting to see what will happen. We introduce ourselves through illusions just so everyone knows we're there. A long time passes where we're not sure anything is happening and then we see:QUOTE
Brother Raven turns his sapphire gaze to the hidden dreamweavers and caws to them happily.
Then nothing for a moment more and then this:
QUOTE
Brother Raven takes flight once again, alighting into the branches of the Master Ravenwood to rest.

Yeah...there was another time some Nihilist or other was trying to pull a fast one on us during an event with one of the Viscanti there. We had a dreamweaver go in, and I think Yini's transmigrate animal at some point, but they couldn't hear the denizen speak. It was all rather silly really.
