I'm planning to join Magnagora in the ur'Guard, and I have a few questions.

1) How much does Dex matter compared to Strength?

2) Is Taurian a good choice for a warrior? They seem to have good stats. And it would be cool to play a bovine knight imo.

3) ur'Guard can choose between Bonecrusher and Blademaster. Are there any differences between the two skillsets other than dealing blunt/cutting damage?

4) Referring to last question: Which class is probably better to pick?

5) Is constitution defense against magical damage only?

6) Somebody explain Necromancy and Hunting/Tracking to me

7) What's with the crowned smilies? Are they some sort of monarchy that fores the other smilies to pay homage? bored.gif KneelSuckers.gif

Have fun there!

1) How much does Dex matter compared to Strength?
Sorry, can't help much with this. Some one else will definately be able to answer this.

2) Is Taurian a good choice for a warrior? They seem to have good stats. And it would be cool to play a bovine knight imo.
I'll leave this to the warriors again.

3) ur'Guard can choose between Bonecrusher and Blademaster. Are there any differences between the two skillsets other than dealing blunt/cutting damage?
Actually, the Ur'Guard can choose all four weapon specialisation, meaning you can pick Bonecrusher, Blademaster, Axelord and Pureblade. And besides blunt and cutting damage differences, they also have different afflictions. Of course, you also wield different kinds of weapons.

4) Referring to last question: Which class is probably better to pick?
Depends on your playing style, your preference for how you like your enemies dead, and roleplay reasons.

5) Is constitution defense against magical damage only?
Constitution adds to you max health, not to any form of defense.

6) Somebody explain Necromancy and Hunting/Tracking to me
Hrm, I'll have to leave this to the more well-informed again.

7) What's with the crowned smilies? Are they some sort of monarchy that forces the other smilies to pay homage? bored.gif KneelSuckers.gif

Some useful websites that you'll want to look at:
Map of entire Basin
The Scrying Pool (A LustiWiki of sorts.)

And don't hesitate to ask on your GNT or your undersecs should you have any questions. happy.gif

As far as roleplay goes, Necromancy allows you to become a Death Knight using the powers of Nil to become a lich. Undead Taurian would be seen as better than Taurian in Magnagora. Trackers wouldn't have that same relationship to the core powers that Magnagora worships.

And as far as mechanics go, I know that the parts of Tracking that were attractive to me, i.e. the hound seeking skills and such, have been downgraded to be much less interesting to me personally. Tracking has some nice things in it but I don't know if it'd be worth taking when compared to Necromancy.

I think Pureblade is pretty popular right know but come on, you know you want to be a taurian axelord voodoo.gif

What are the advantages to becoming a Lich?

OK... first the Dex... it may be important, but it is hard to see anything coming off it

Strength affects how much damage and how much deep wounds you deal. The more strength, the more deep wounds and the faster the afflictions will be open to you... Dex only affects how easily you can gain an affliction. So if you have dealt 1900 wounds to the head and lets say a certain affliction requires from 1800 to 2500 wounds on the head, with higher dex it is more likely you will be able to achieve that affliction(or so I think)

Over all, STR is better than DEX

Taurians are perhaps one of the top choices for you to choose.

As for the weapon... It's pretty much how you want to kill people... either via cutting their head or bashing the brian or maybe cutting them in half... I will say that bonecrushers have it "easier" because they can deal many afflictions that can stop enemies, but you can be decent with any class, actually

And Necromancy is way better than tracking unless you can really put the effort into transing both Environment and Tracking... and even then, being a Lich warrior is awesome die.gif spectre.gif vampire.gif

Just wondering, does size matter at all?

Higher sizes take longer to writhe and are not stunned for as long. Tumbling also takes longer. Smaller sizes are quick to writhe, stunned for longer, and tumble for shorter time.

It's not the size of the boat, is the motion of the waves quickexit.gif

The summon resistance is pretty noticeable, too

1) How much does Dex matter compared to Strength?

Strength effects the amount of damage you do and the number of deepwounds you deal when you hit someone. Dex effects the proc rate of deepwound afflictions, and very minorly effects the number of deepwounds (but Str is more important for this by far).

What the above means is that strength is far more important, but many say that having very low dex is putting the battle into the hands of luck. If you don't understand how deepwounds and deepwound afflictions work, I recommend asking someone in your guild, as they can answer that far better than I can.

The above of course only applies to PvP. In PvE, strength is all that matters.

Taurian is certainly a good choice, though there are other equally good choices and a few arguably better ones. If you like the RP of being a bovine knight, go for it =)

3) ur'Guard can choose between Bonecrusher and Blademaster. Are there any differences between the two skillsets other than dealing blunt/cutting damage?

There are actually quite a few differences between the four weapon specializations, especially between the one-handers (Bonecrusher/Blademaster) and the two-handers (Axelord/Pureblade). First, the obvious: the one-handers hit far more frequently, but the two-handers cause more damage all at once. One-handers afflict with poisons and deepwound afflictions more often (due to double the number of hits), whereas two-handers have nastier deepwound afflictions and a higher base poison afflict chance.

Bonecrushers work by stacking stun on their targets and bashing in their head while they are unable to parry to build up deepwounds for bashbrain (their critical head wounds instakill), or by draining their target's endurance to nothing, and then just poking them to death. Blademasters work by stacking large amounts of bleeding and pinning their target's leg to keep them from doing anything, forcing their parry/stancing away from their head so you can go for a behead (their critical head wounds instakill), or chest for a heartpierce (critical chest wound... not sure exactly what it does, but it often results in death from what I've seen).

Axelords work by stacking enough head/chest/gut wounds while causing enough damage/bleeding to keep their foe from curing them fast enough, and then going either for a behead (their critical head wounds instakill), or an execute (their tons of wounds on head/chest/gut instakill). Pureblades either go for a similar kill as Blademasters (stacking bleeding to help stack deepwounds to go for a behead), or they can screw up their target enough that he cannot move, and then go for Decapitate (a timed instakill).

I'm not a warrior, so the above may not be entirely correct, but that is what I observed from when I played the game.

The above of course only applies to PvP. In PvE, the one-handers are mathematically proven to be better in many cases than two-handers, and there is no difference between the skills that effects PvE.

4) Referring to last question: Which class is probably better to pick?
Really up to you. People keep changing their opinion on what is best/worst. At the moment, I don't think any is blanketly worthless like was the case in the past.

QUOTE
5) Is constitution defense against magical damage only?

I'm not sure what you mean by Constitution. The Constitution stat? The stat determines your max health, and is just about the most important stat in the game. It has nothing to do with defence of any kind, only max health. The Constitution skill in Atheletics is completely seperate, and gives you immunity to the affliction Vomitting (I think? I was never too sure of that). It does not defend you in any other way, as far as I know.

However, Resistance, another skill in Athletics, is a 15% resistance to the damage type Magical. This doesn't mean all magic, just magic that causes "magical" damage, such as moonbust (100% magic), nature curse (100% magic), symbol strike (100% magic), and cosmic fire (50% fire, 50% magic).

QUOTE
6) Somebody explain Necromancy and Hunting/Tracking to me
Necromancy gives you a bunch of useful skills and buffs, including the ability to raise the dead (not actually useful, but cool), to turn into a ghost and sneak around, to heal yourself and others, and so on. Tracking gives you traps, which are absurdly expensive, but very useful in group combat, and a hound which can track down objects and people. Necromancy is considered the better choice. If you want skill lists, they should be up on the Lusternia wiki, if the wiki still exists. http://www.avaerin.com/scryingpool/ should be the address.

Once upon a time, we had a substantial collection of beautiful and wonderful smilies, and they were a glory to behold. One day, for some unfathomable reason, the lead admin replaced a large number of them with this hideous trash, at the same time that the default skin was altered to an abyssmally designed piece of garbage. Ah well, with time shall all good things pass.
