For a mugwump nihilist, which is better Tarot or Hexes?
Most combat I do is defending Earth and Nil, which as of right now consisted of me using web on raiders and hoping I don't get killed by a demense. I want to get better at fighting but I don't think I'll ever have the time or money to become one of the best combatants.

Everything I've heard and read says Tarot by far.

Tarot, hands-down. Hexes just isn't worth using for a nihilist.

The best love you can give for the Taint is to kill them, ending their misery.
Stop trolling.

Everyone will tell you tarot, but that's based on old information now. Wrack's upgrade caters nicely to hexes, hexes have been upgraded multiple times, I think that, if you're feeling up to the challenge of making yourself a new strategy, rather than fine tuning someone else's, you can do hexes just fine.

Downgraded too.. I want allhex
Oh and -some- way to draw + throw in one move, or have hexaura -not- cost 10p since it's a hindrance 50% of the time, and an aura to make my hexes auto hit my enemies or not and.. and..

Allhex was a worthless and retarded skill.
I'd say Tarot handsdown, unless you're going for onmitrans. Hexes just isn't worth it until you trans it, and even then, it's a tossup. Tarot has interesting, flavourful, and support skills, whereas hexes just has offense.

few more questions,
1) How does Wrack work?
2) What did allhex do?
3) What do the Fall, Warrior, Starleaper, Enigma and World tarot cards do?

I recommend looking over www.avaerin.com/scryingpool at some point, as that has skill lists for every skillset.
1) Wrack is the transcendant skill in Nihilism. It costs 5 power and instantly kills your target if your target has half mana or less and is shackled or paralysed.
2) Hexen can draw up to six hexes in a room, and then throw those hexes at people one at a time. Drawing and throwing each take about half normal balance. Allhex was the old trans Hexes skill that cost 10 power and threw all six hexes at someone at once. The problem with this was that, back then, it was an unavoidable instakill against people who did not have focusmind, but against someone highly skilled at combat, it was curable before the hexen regained balance from using the skill. On top of that, after using allhex, you need to wait for power regen to do anything useful. For a MD/SD, you need to wait 80 seconds before you can toadcurse, and in that time, they can more than cure and recover and the allhex's effects will all be gone. Nihilists only needed to wait 50 seconds, but that was still too long. So, it was overpowered against weak foes (where the skill was excessive and unnecessary), and worthless against strong foes. So, it was replaced by HexAura, which is awesome.
3) Fall causes rubble to fall and block exits. Starleaper causes you to immediately leave the room in a random direction if a personal enemy of yours enters it (I think?), Warrior causes your tarot cards to do some damage when you throw them for a time. Enigma causes your next three tarot throws to throw a random card in addition. World allows, for a short time, your tarot throws to ignore shields (invoke circle/evoke pentagram/sprinkle salt), break the shield, and still hit with their effect.

There's no way you're getting someone's mana below half as a Nihilist without access to aeon.

aww but allhex is fun...say you set up 12 hexes in a room with aura and push...that'd be fun to use.
Malarious2007-05-04 07:01:12
Long story short.. Take Tarot... Hexes are in progress to make it more feasible for -us- but there are some backlashes that need to be addressed really before we can make use of them.
Tarot also has alot of utility, fall slows people form leaving some exits, starleaper makes you move if you take damage.. they can web and soulless and such only damage will move you, warrior does damage on the next three flings, yes enigma throws a random card your next three flings, and yes world makes tarot shatter shields.. but worls isnt worth its cost.

That'd be exploiting a bug, and we know people don't do that, right?

well if it is one, it's unavoidable at times. a lot of time I literally set up six hexes in every room of the area and then i draw my own six to use. something like 6 agoraphobia in every room to split up a group and then i have my own six hexes...am I just suppose to not draw my own hexes to actually throw? cause then hexaura would be useless since pushing takes so much longer anyways
I do recall reporting it properly at least once when the hexaura change first happened.

Unavoidable, maybe, but intentionally going out of your way to use it (ie, drawing 6 agoraphobia, then going and getting your own hexaura set, returning to the agoraphobia room) would be fitting exactly into Zarquan's definition.

With good use of addiction hexes, it's possible.

i put them in every single room in the nest literally every one. it's gonna be that way in every room until they're all hit.
