So, I've been considering getting a new car, and I've been pondering if I want GPS on it or not. Unfortunately, the GPS comes as upgrade option packages. Which means things will get expensive really fast. One car the cheapest package it comes with is $3000 or so, and another one is $2000, but its only an option on the most expensive version on the car. The money isn't a *huge* issue as much as I don't want to pay $3k for something I'm going to want to put my fist through, so, I figured that while I wait for these gears of war maps to download (ie, paying $10 so I'm not excluded from half of the online games from now on *mutter*), I'd find out if any of you have used them and if you like it.

My mum got one recently and she's really liked it. I don't know if European ones are vastly different to American ones though.

Hmm, it was built into his dashboard, when he got his custom subwoofers, but its also an older car.

GPS is sweet. Actually you can get GPS for free on VZ navigator on some phones like the LG enV, which works pretty well for being a feature on a phone. It audibly tells you when you are about to turn, distances, etc.

Edit: Gears is a damn fun game. Fun fun fun. Insane diff is brutal man. No headshot? Flank flank dead.

Acrune,

The question isn't "should I get a GPS system" because they are awesome and everybody that have replied have endorsed them.

The question truly is whether it's worth paying 3k for the GPS that is installed inside your car.

I bought a PDA a year back and bought the GPS program for $AUD400 (so about $USD340). Although sometimes it can be temperamental (due to me living in the valley of the mountains), I can seriously say I won't go back to normal maps. It picks the fastest route for me (saving me heaps of time) and less the hassle of flipping 20 pages in a map.

Lots of people have the top brands (TomTom and Navman) and they cost about $600 for a good model. My friends that have feel the same way as I.

The detachable ones are very portable. So after you use it, take it off and stick it in your pants. The only problem with the system is that it chews power like crazy. So if you are a person that tends to travel a lot, make sure you have a car charger to go with it (in Oz for my system, about $AUD40 (or $USD35)).

Seriously Acrune, get a portable one. Much cheaper and you can spend the rest of the money for other stuff.

Happen to play gears on live? Coworkers and I play a lot, and we can often use another player.

I use a Magellan Roadmate 700. It was around $400 i think. My family has named it Lola(watched RV way too many times). Clips to your windshield with a suction cup, but easily hideable. Besides, people break in to nab stereos out of dashes, so why not gps's?
