Here's my simple idea:
Allow bards to choose between Acrobatics and Rituals/Totems.
Seriously, it would add extra utility and flavour to the bard guilds.
As is, all bards are essentially the same, except the music specialization.
Am I missing something that makes this totally overpowered?

Seems like it would add a world of balance issues that would need to be addressed.
Unknown2007-05-07 12:38:36
I don't like this. At all. We already have two guilds in the cities that get to pick rituals, and this would make every single person in the Communes able to pick Totems. Bards need new things, not ripping off what everyone else already has. Conformity FTL.
Aiakon2007-05-07 12:46:32
I don't like it for different reasons.
I can't really get my head round the skills. Who knows if it would be inbalanced. Probably would be in some cases.
More importantly, it makes it a nightmare to balance things. Suppose Guild X is massively OP. Great. So you nerf Skill Y.. but if Skill Y is also being used by Guilds A, B, C and D, it has far wider ramifications than if Skill Y belonged to Guild X alone. See what I mean?

Totems has four specializations though. That's more variety than EVERY bard having Acrobatics.
And like I said, it IS a free choice. I think Acrobatics should be made available to Warriors (with a few small changes maybe).

I honestly can think of no overpowered tactics that would come out of this, that's why I wanted to know if I was missing some magical uber skill combination(s).
Aiakon2007-05-07 16:37:22
But you see that the more guilds that share the same skillset, the harder it is to balance them?
Unknown2007-05-07 16:42:18
Well, yes, but they don't really need balancing.
Unless those skills + Music causes some kind of super combo breaker move to appear, I don't see what the problem is, honestly.
The main this is this:
Currently, bards are really plain. They all have the same skills, more or less, except the Music specializations, which are a bit bland and generalised really. I think a bard that can do sparkly moon healing or vomit diseased clouds is a lot more interesting.

I think something nice would be, applying health to your head does not cure truehearing, it should be myrtle only. Hmm, should envoy that >.>

same thing with warriors.

Allow bards to chose psionics, why don't you?

A class that could use both psionics and aeon would be utterly ridiculous.

Yeah. Warriors need an alternative for Athletics. I suggest we give warriors Acrobatics, even if it's "useless". ¬_¬
Unknown2007-05-07 19:26:41
I don't see why there needs to be a choice for Acrobatics/Athletics. It's fine.
Unknown2007-05-07 19:28:02
Yeah, I'd be all for giving warriors Acrobatics.
Or even merge Acrobatics and Athletics into one skillset, so that it's actually a viable choice for a bard instead of Totems/Rituals.

Already got this in my envoy notes, but another envoy's welcome to snag 'em from me. My list's huge.

Lol, no. Harbingers with choke? Cantors with inquisition? No thx.

How is a Harbinger in choke any more overpowered than a Shadowdancer in choke?
Shamarah2007-05-07 20:19:44
Attraction and timed instakill.
Oh, and spiritsingers with aeon? No thanks.

Change it so that choke nullifies attraction.
Elaborate on the aeon and Spiritsinger scenario?
Sleep is a pain, but there'll be ways around it.
