Cicadas live only about 30 days as adults, and their main goal is mating.

Seems to be the main goal of most humans as well, so nothing odd.......

With that comment fox news was able to take a function that is primary to most creatures sound like the cicadas only did it. Nothing is funner then dumbing things down.

I bet they like too eat too. laugh.gif

Actualy.....

Very few animals only mate, most do other things such as take care of young, build homes, add to the colony etc. Added to the concept of a 17 year timeline, you could easily imagine that the bugs live longer than 30 days and are active in more activity than just mating.

But the point here is 17 years of hiding (so its 7 years too long) and then a zerg of bugs comming out of the ground.

What!? Why?

Is it the spores, or are you just jealous of a new monk guild in kansas?

When you put it that way...
But i remember going down to D.C. in 8th grade during a Cidadas year (I belive the cycle there is shorter) The things were huge. And scary. And they hit the bus in small armys

I love Cidadas... they make the coolest noise.

I'll probably never have a monk alt. Not that I don't think the archtype is nifty as all heck, cause I do! But it'd be the same reason I wouldn't be good with a Warrior alt. I'm just not a good fighter.

I remember the last time they came out around here but it was two broods coming at the same time. They were everywhere on trees and were so loud and obnoxious.

kansas is the weakest military commune though. There should be some type of committe on how these Cidadas monks are formed

We need a Kephera smilie.

I miss the cicadas we had in Maryland. Never got boring to chase em around, catch em, and stick em in a girls hair and watch em scream happy.gif

Well aren't you the charmer... unsure.gif

I was helping girls face their unrational fears of friendly bugs. I was letting them crawl on my face and glasses, and one flew into my mouth while I was talking. There's nothing to be scared of, and I was just showing them! biggrin.gif

This area (Maryland, DC, etc) has 10 year cicadas which aren't too numerous, and 17 year cicadas which come in hordes. Last time (3 years ago) both came out at the same time, making it extra fun!
