I was having a discussion with Gabranth regarding a few guild matters recently, and he brought something up that made me think. There are a number of GR 19s active in the Geomancers right now (he jokingly stated that's the average guildrank these days, which isn't quite true), some of them more active and involved than others. The problem is that within the guild GR 19s have quite a lot of rank, not just because of numbers but because we've incorporated them into the hierarchy (whether they have an appointed position or not). While this is often useful, it can be a problem when there a lot of these members, some or many are not working, or when one of them acts up and a more responsible GR 19 or even lower ranked Secretary is unable to discipline them without the help of Admin/GM/Champ. This could theoretically only become more of a problem if more leaders leave office and continue to be active. Similarly, it might not be that big an issue as 19s go inactive or we get more stable leadership (I can dream). I was thinking it could be of use if people could gradually lose their rank from 19 down to a lower rank, say 15 or 10, either if they are inactive or as a form of punishment (do you really think disfavours will put them much lower?). Then again, the Geomancers could remove them from the hierarchy as it works now, but it does make a certain amount of sense to have them outrank Secretaries purely based on their former leadership and number.
I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this or not. Many might not see it as a problem depending on their guild, but it has caused issues with the Geos in the past and I'm just wondering if it's a big enough deal or not that it should be addressed.

You automatically get GR 20 when you become GA/GC/GM. When you leave, the rank drops to 20.
I wouldn't like to see someone's rank drop as a response to that, because they could lose a few useful guild privileges, though I'm not sure what. Plus, you're usually the one responsible for putting stupid people in these positions of leaderships. From what I gather with Geomancers, their people/leaders/elections go a lot different from other guild's.

Just let me take over the elections, it'll be fun, I promise.
...of course you'd have to let me be unenemied, first...

Revan, is this thread about you? *peer*

I got demoted to 18 once, I like that rank's title better.

I still think 20 ranks is a bit too many. It's rather uncommon to get too far into them, unless you're purposely promoted.

I agree. It may just be the Serenguard, but I have never seen a member who hasn't been a guildleader with a GR over 10.

Moondancers have several GR10+, but none of us seem to have gotten a favour in years though.

I agree that 20 is too much. Getting to rank 15 takes forever, the Aquas use to do that for secretaries because they thought it'd get them the outguild priv but apparently that wasn't the case. Anyway, I can't imagine anyone actually making use of the ranks and going through them unless they like devoted their entire lives to the guild. 15 may be a more sane maximum.

Astrasia is rank 11 in Hartstone and I think that may be the highest rank gained through just favours alone. Its really hard to move past rank 5. Its usually a bunch of rank 5's and then ex-leaders in every guild that I've seen.
Vix2007-06-02 19:21:15
Nejii's currently rank 12, and I forget what Laysus was before getting Admin.
Noola2007-06-02 22:31:07
I think the major problem is that maybe folks are a bit stingy with guildfavours. Myself included, I'm sure.

I try to give out my favour all the time. It take a LOT of guildfavours to go from one rank to the next after like...GR8.
It would be nice if all guildfavours were weighted just a bit more.

My char in Imperian belonged to a rather new guild (made from the new Charter system). The guild was made with an Advancement program, with fairly easy things to gain guildfavour.
If you gain novice aide status - that's a guildfavour from the HoN. For every year of service, that's another favour from HoN or similar rank. Periodically sending venom sacs to the HoN gains a favour. Donating to the guild shop is a favour. Killing Guild and city enemies gain favour. Suggesting and succeeding in adding items to the Advancement program or the guild library is a favour. etc. etc.
Rather simple tasks, favoured by those who are not super ranked (ie GR15+) but those around GR10-. Special things can mean that the GM or GR15+ favour those. But it means higher ranks are achievable, and it takes time for people to mature into them.
Since I left, apart from the guildmaster, my char was the highest ranked (GR7) but as this is a new guild, not surprising. But people are getting favoured every IG month.

I would like to see the number of guildranks reduced to roughly half of what we have now. You get to a point in the guild where you'd rather see favours go towards the younger members to encourage them, but, you've also not reached the peak rank because it is just so high and takes so many favours.

19 is too many ranks.. I like this idea of giving a gf every year for service spent as a undersec/sec etc... actually, thats a really good idea.
