I did a search through this forum on bookbinding ideas, and I saw this one alluded to, as well as allusions to some downsides, but I didn't find anything concrete, so here goes:
I would like for Bookbinders to be able to bookbind works that aren't tied to a specific person. The bookbinding products for orgs would remain as they are.
This would allow Bookbinders to create blank journals, books, etc. and stock them in shops. If, for coding reasons, the books would need to be FOR a specific person, perhaps it could be set up so that a person could make the book theirs with a command, or the first person to write in it becomes the book's owner.
I can see the concern of the proliferation of a bunch of player-craftable, non-decayable items, but the demand for books is fairly low as it is. This would just be more of a convenience thing and perhaps could make bookbinding marginally more profitable.
Because this seems like a rather innocuous idea, I'm sure there's some glaring, fatal problem with it that's kept it from being seriously pushed, so be gentle.

I can't think of any good reasons why not.

Only reason I can think of: possible coding issues.
Other than that, it's a good idea.

Agreed with Xenthos. It would be nice to see bookbinders with a little more work and to be needed some more (aside of just scrolls).

I can't imagine how, just make em like bard instruments.

Doesn't mean the code itself will support that sort of change to books, given how many have already been released (or other possible hurdles). Only those with access to it could find out for sure.
Perhaps it would be easy, perhaps not-- but if it is easy to do (or even moderately difficult), it's a good idea.
Not sure it's something I'd want an admin putting 50 hours of coding work to change, though, if it turned out to be that difficult. Can't imagine it would, but who knows!

I would love to see this. Along with bookbinders being able to craft stationery!

If we can't get blank books, stationary would still be sweet!
