The Libraries have become really crowded in the months since they were implemented.
I was wondering if anybody considered setting up any annexes and expanding the library rooms, and organizing the physical books into appropriate annexes. I notice the World Library has several rooms but only one library room now.

One room for each general subject/area!
It'd mean expanding those tiny-arse libraries in every organization. Maybe you can place Collegiums deep inside the library, too!

You'll also notice that the World Library isn't nearly as full as the libraries of the cities, which is why I have not yet taken the time to expand it. I will when more books end up there and when I finally get around to making more background books such as the one about Ae.
Aiakon2007-06-09 10:53:26
At some stage I would like Magnagora to get round to it.
Vaults of restricted access books; different reading rooms for Literary and Scholarly...
One day. There isn't an enormous amount of space for the Mag library to expand into. I think we'd either have to turret upwards or burrow downwards. Or both.

I figured you wrote that!

Aren't the passagways down to the Necromentate below the Necropolis? Splitting anexes between scholarly and literary is an awesome idea.

Why not? There's no fixed distance between locations. Annoying for mapping, but handy for expanding

Not to mention that technically an annex doesn't have to be next to a regular library. They could put one in one of the Noble Houses, in the Iron Council tower, or elsewhere. Just like a city's library annex can be a separate building on the other side of town.
Hazar2007-06-12 01:23:44
Mhmmm. Annexes.

If you have a read of the room descs around Magnagora's necropolis, you'll see that there's not a whole lot of room to plonk in a new library wing.. unless you do some drastic rewriting.

It does.
They can't.
And to Aiakon, should you wish to expand I am sure that solutions can be found, we'll build one -inside- the necromentate or whatever that giant brain thing is called. Lots of room there.

Don't forget, you can always build "up"
Or you can always cut rooms in half.
Elostian2007-06-12 20:37:34
Or we could construct a huge new tower named 'the forbidden archives' with huge arcane laboratories, enchantment chambers, stasis fields, disection rooms, rarities cabinets, artifact chambers, warp cores, teleport rooms, Tardis construction sites, shuttle bays, gunpods, ICBM silos, and a cold fusion power plant.
Or alternatively we could just build up.

Yevah2007-06-13 21:04:22
Why stop with a huge tower? Create a floating island of rock. Surely the Geomancers can replicate Hallifax with stone and sheer control over the mass it has to support. Of course, you'd have to chain a dozen Geomancers down and force them to support the island for the rest of eternity but that's an acceptable loss..
..
Building up is boring.

THAT WOULD BE SO COOL! And like, they could be killable mobs, but geo novices could do this little quest to make 'em stronger so like, they might get uber strong eventually and reallllly hard to kill, but if you do kill like all of them, the entire thing collapses and crushes all these people and blocks off the way to the library and you need power and dark essence and more power and the blood of novice geos to make another support thingie!
And Yevah's sig scares me.

You could build inwards...
All those books in one place... warping space and time, there could be a small tardis like building at the centre of the library which when you go in revelas a huge room with a small tardis like building at the centre... which when you go in reveals a huge room with a small tardis like building... Well, you get the idea

If they do have an ape for a librarian, it should THWAP people whenever they say "monkey" in the Library. And it's arms should be describes as broomstick handles tied together with elastic.
...What?
...What?
Veonira2007-06-14 15:59:23
Let's just turn the library into a holodeck and then people can just pretend the'yre in an actual library. If Jean-Luc Picard can go to a wild west town held in one holodeck, we can build a huge library.
(Alternatively I think it would be cool to have the library underground in a huge labyrinth if we're trying to be secretive. Or in a really tricky tower.)

Or warp our knowledge of planar to create a permenant gate to Nil, so a tower reaches up to scrape at the burnt sky above Magnagora, tearing through reality to somehow place an annex in Nil without having to transverse, with Luciphage's help.
But maybe that's just me that thinks that sounds nifty.

that's just nice
if you actually put the enchanter room and many other planar and other nifty things in a special complex in magnagora (especially in the necropolis) it would give great flavor to magnagora
