Recently I switched to astrology, and here is a log of my first fight. I understand the use of rays and nativities but should I have used any spheres? Or zodiac signs? From what I understand zodiac signs are completely random if more than one planet is in the same sign but I'm not 100% sure, and randomness is not a factor I want to start playing with. Overall I think astrology can be fun at times but if your fighting someone with a crappy nativity good luck getting anywhere near killing them.

Can't really tell you whether you should have used any spheres or not unless you have a stargaze from that day. There's pretty much always at least one useful sphere.

EDIT: And depending on the date, you won't have to rely on their nativity, but again I can't tell you that unless you include a stargaze.

Some useful combat spheres, when negative, are Volcano (fire weakness), Spider (writhe time), Bumblebee (Focus body time), Dragon (magic weakness) and Skull (decreased CON).

If you look at AB ASTROLOGY VOLCANO, you can see what each planet does when it's effecting a sign. Only Papaxi effects a sign randomly for better or worse, depending on the distance it is from the sign in question. If you're not sure, I guess you can just cast the sign on yourself to see if it really is negative or positive, and then cast the opposite to erase it from yourself.

Ouch. Looks like she'd have a bad time against astrologers. Not everyone gets aeoned by Aapek. I think my personal nativity says Aapek gives some random little affliction that doesn't do squat.

I've never actually had an astrologer. Does that mean that, while the afflictions by rays are variable between characters, they're static for each individual character? Like, Eroee will always hit Catarin with sensitivity?

The Nativity of a character doesn't change, and determines what PLANETARY ray afflictions occur.

There's another complex system where you can conjure a SIGN RAY (Skull, Dolphin ray etc.) and it picks one affliction from all the planets under that sign at the moment, and afflicts as if it was planetary. (For instance, Aapek is under Skull and you cast Skull. Since Aapek is sitting under skull, a cardinal sign, it hits Aeon.)

Sign rays are more powerful when you tap into a constellation and cast all the rays under the sign (1 power, I think). Also, if a planet is Retrograding under a sign, it ALWAYS hits with the ray.



Hopefully that didn't fry anyone's brains. If it did, I'm used to it by now.

-Ninja'd by Shiri. You can actually trigger sign rays once you learn the Cardinal/Mutable/Fixed afflictions for each sign.

You can still reflex most of them, it's not that hard.

Spider may be nice for a Nihilist, with shackles/webs and such, but the difference in time made from Spider/Bumblebee is minimal and usually not worth the bother.

If you have a nice negative sphere available (Dragon was negative today, so 10%+ weakness to magic damage), cast it. Spheres stick for a very long time, so you can always just move away a few rooms to regain the power if you really need to (though the power cost is being envoyed, I am told).

And don't be afraid to use Papaxi. A 20% decrease in max. health/mana is very nice at times.

EDIT: It's sad how one of the biggest advantages of Astrology is the fact that people don't bother to set up triggers for it.
