Ok, so I was watching the daily show and saw an interesting segment. I've posted a link below, you might have to do a little searching for it, the Title is "Our Enemy's Enemy", and the part I found interesting starts at around 2:40.
(note: the timer for the video counts down till it finishes)

And I also found aNew York Times article.

Basically, Jon Stewart is making a criticism of the Bush Administration's newest idea for how to succeed in Iraq. Bush wants to give weapons to insurgents in Iraq, if they promise to attack Al Qaeda and not US troops, which sounds to me like a REALLY BAD IDEA.

I've heard a different version of the saying "Then enemy of my enemy is my friend" which I believe to be more appropriate, which is "The enemy of my enemy is not my friend, merely a convenience."
I'm not exactly sure where I heard/read it, although for some reason I think it may have been Verithrax...

That's pretty much how Osama Bin Laden got started. CIA funded weapons for him to fight the Russians.

Or how we got into the mess with Iraq in the first place, back when we supported them because of Iran in the late 70s and early 80s.

I think he's desperately trying to find a way to not wind up as a joke and horrible failure in the history books because of this war, and grasping at straws. Course, this only makes him more of a joke because he ought to know from history how it'll turn out.

I wonder what the history books will say 100 years from now.

I know exactly what mine will say. That Bush was an arrogant, warmongering, censor.gif ing, censor.gif ed, censor.gif . It might take some white-out, but I'll manage.

As for the topic, I'm honestly starting to think I could do a better job. People always say that, but they're joking. I'm not; the man obviously hasn't got a shred of common sense. Either he's an idiot, or he's got a totally different batch of intel than anything we're hearing, but can't speak a word of it because it will doom our entire race. In which case, wow, sucks to be him.

Nothing new for American policy. Hell, we've even done things similar-but-worse.

And it's always come back to bite us in the ass.

I was under the impression, that was infact, not his goal, but rather is a nice satire of what he is actually doing.

i.e. The first mistake the U.S. made was disbanding the army and saying that anyone who was ever labeled a baathist can't participate in the new Iraq. Now instead, he is fixing that in the only way possible, which is to follow the Pakistan model of having Tribes defend themselves with loyalty to the main goverment, but not reliance upon it. This is there to build trust between the Tribe and the Government. In other words, the Tribes are not America's enemy, because the Tribes are Iraqis.

At this point, anything Bush can do short of pulling out of the Middle East, apologizing heartily to the world, resigning, forcing every Republican in the order of succession to resign with him (Currently just Cheney - that would make Pelosi president, but you can't have everything.) giving all his assets to non-profit foundations dedicated to rebuilding and disarming the middle east, and going to live as a hermit for the rest of his life would be an egregious mistake.
