As per Yrael’s (whom btw, I anonymously tried to convince to steal for me, hahaha) request I’ll try to organize my previous post into something easier to read:
Things I want to do with my character:
• Get a manse/clan to establish a cult to Illith
The cult would be in preference an Illithoid exclusive one, with The Self (imo Illith
worship=self-worship) being the focus
• Revive Illith to resume her “devouring†spree
• Investigate into the nature of souls and learn how to harness them
Dissect/study dead beings to see if I find their soul, even experiment in still live
specimens.
• Learn how to extract the shards of the Dead-Elders from mortals
• Create life of my own to equate me as equal to a God
• Find a way to slay the Fates and lead to the cessation of all Life
• Seek how to exterminate/consume Gods to bring forth Inexistence
Related with my goals, what I need is suggestions on how to reconcile my character’s goals because as of right now I don’t feel them as united, I feel them like they are splintering into all sort of directions. Also, advice on what would be the best way to shape/achieve said goals.
Things I want my character to be:
• To be as amorphous as possible
Shape myself in accordance to achieve a goal/effect, yet internally remain decidedly amoral
• To be of a deceptive character
Kissing people’s asses at one time, and plotting on how to exploit/kill them the next
• To be a pauper, pariah as a main guise
With the goal to constantly downplay myself so others don’t consider me as a threat
• To be some sort of a living irony
Having no soul, no conscience, yet play on other’s people’s possession of them. One example I have is the beggar one, the other of a sin-eater to offer to rid the dead of their guilt to make it part of me… even considering purchasing a skeletal horse and name it Guilt, and go mockingly point at it and say “There lies my guiltâ€, or something like that.
In short, I already have in mind the personality traits I wish for my character, even though sometimes my own (the player’s) seem to surface and come into conflict my character's. Like for example telling Tully to stop being so generous or people like me could take advantage of the likes of him, or when I sold 100 sparkleberry at 100 per to someone and then advised them to investigate further into item prices to avoid being duped in the future… this could be considered as a show of remorse, which is something I’m not entirely sure is compatible with “who I amâ€. Though in the end, Tully being a resourceful person and one of my best patrons could influence me on trying to assure his favor to benefit myself (hence making sure my relation with him doesn’t go sour), and the person I duped being Magnagoran could be taken as trying to be as “polite†as possible with a resident of a place I plan on joining in the future to advance my agenda. But in the end, any tips, examples on how to play a sociopath to refine my personality traits would be a boon.
BTW: Thanks for the advices, comments thus far some are very helpful (Xinemus)
BTW: Tully thanks for the compliment, even though I don't entirely agree... though I must say that your comments just cement on me this notion that you are as equally generous ooc as ic.

I'd think twice about starting, and then leading, a clan based on race. Those orgs never seem to do well at all and in Lusternia I'd imagine they'd do a lot worse.
The second goal you mentioned, that of learning how to harness a soul's power, sounds quite promising and should open up a lot of fun opportunities. I like the pauper illithoid angle too.
As far as conniving, self-centered, diabolical, non-fighters go you could probably find a good many role models. I can think of a number of them but I'll wait before throwing out names to see if anyone else tosses out some better examples than the ones I'm thinking about right now.

Bricriu.
Edit: also, too much text. Bullet points please. For people like me who have the attention span of a two year old on a triple expresso.

Talk to Kaelie about Project Leviathan.

Aiakon is an obvious one, in my mind, and I'd definitely put Rhysus on the list as well even though he doesn't play anymore.

I know this guy. He's doing a very good job. I thought it might be one of our experienced players doing an alt but he needed advice about influencing, so that made me think he's a new player.
Racial clans are tough to do right because the world is so cosmopolitan (which makes it hard to have isolated racial cultures IMO), and sadly metagaming usually results in people taking races with the best speed. I can see you ending up in Magnagora, they are sort of dedicated to the fates
You're doing a great job. Don't mind Tully, he may seem too kind but he takes pity on you and hopes he can redeem you in some manner--plus your pretty darn polite. I'm curious both IC and OOC about the nature of the Illithoid soul too--does being born from a soulless make you soulless? There's a lot we don't know about the nature of existence.

I'd assume that they kind of have Shards, but the shards are different from our shards. They're sort of shards without souls.
@Tully: It would make no sense at all if something splintered from soulless had a soul. Souls don't just appear out of nothing.
And good luck with your RP, Mugulu. It sounds promising, and I hope it goes well. Though I'm not sure how well the racial cult would go, but the other aspects sound really promising. However, a whoever you spoke to said, moulding a soul to your wishes would be much more stable than having the "Creator spark", although even the soul-moulding is a little dodgy. Also, you may expect Elostian knocking on your door some time soon. He seems to have an interest in Illithoids, and I'm sure your character will interest him even more.

No, not at all. In fact the Nihilists defy Fates and consider True Death (praying) the greatest punishment and insult to one's freedom...
But anyhow, that seems like quite the complex character and I hope it works out well because there are way too few people with "the plan" around here. Just remember to let the events in his life influence him too!
Unknown2007-06-25 16:18:08
Then what's the title "Instrument of the Fates" supposed to mean? Maybe things have changed but I remember people with those titles.
How'd Dynara create souls then? From clay?
The point I'm making I see no official dogma for what consists of a soul. All soul information/speculation comes from outside knowledge, for instance, the definitions of soul and spirit from Wikipedia. And even that's subjective based on religious and cultural background.
I've read the histories, but everything's sort of vague, which can lead to a lot of speculation.

When you spell fate, deception, and amorality sideways, it spells Glomdoring, but I might be biased.
A couple of encouragements for you:
1) Instead of a racial clan dedicated to the worship of Illith, why not eliminate the race restriction and broaden the scope a bit? Perhaps the clan could orient around the Soulless in general with Illith being a focus (sort of like Lovecraft's Cthulhu cults - lots of Old Ones, but Cthulhu becomes a focus for that devotion) and the Illithoids being considered sort of a master race in the hierarchy. Not only might you snag more members, but you'd by definition have to be extremely deceptive and careful about it, as such a group would be stridently persecuted by virtually every org in the Basin, including Divines. It'd be great. You also might end up with moles (the people kind). Lots of potential for good RP if you could get it rolling.
2) You have a lot of good ideas and goals. You're probably doing this already, but I'd encourage you to prioritize and arrange those goals in a particular order and focus on them one at a time. For instance, the Soulless cult would be a good goal to shoot for after some of your other goals have already made a "name" for your character. I often fall into the trap of trying to implement multiple ideas for Xinemus at once, and it usually ends up that none of them are done justice.

Tully, funnily enough, Illith was not a creator. You knew exactly what I meant by that, so you're really not getting yourself anywhere. Dynara was the creator, therefore "You can't make this" rules don't apple.
Verithrax2007-06-25 16:30:17
Secret clans don't work. Take it from me.
Unknown2007-06-25 16:38:24
No, I was specifically reply to your statement "souls can't come from nothing", the creator status had nothing to do with that reply. My point was the argument "something can't come from nothing" might not apply to souls. Stories occur when souls were spontaneously created, and Yudhe was technically "from the void".
You're making an assumption your view of Lusternia souls is the correct one. I'm not so certain it is, or at least I don't subscribe to an objective viewpoint with as little knowledge as has been revealed to us. How do you know the energy of splintering didn't give Illithoids what Illith didn't have? Maybe splintering is like that. Who knows?
I think the mystery of the soul is something we'll still be learning as time goes on.

I have this bad tendency of being too long-winded when I write, so allow me to remedy this.
I am aware of how difficult it must be to establish and handle a one-race cult, especially when there aren’t many Illithoids or a big population in general. Another issue I have, is that due to the voracious and self-centered nature that I believe Illithoids have, I must be extra careful when dealing with folks in the Basin to avoid getting at odd ends with the entirety of it, to fulfill my goals. To remedy this, a possible solution, as someone suggested, would to open the cult to other races, but only allowing them to advance a certain extent with the upper circle exclusive to Illithoids. The more you advance the more you come to know of the nature/secrets (Masonry: inspiration). The hierarchy system would allow to filter members to determine who ascends and who doesn’t, preferably through pin-pointing on those Illithoids who have the same view as me in order to avoid a conflict of loyalties.
By the way, you can bet that Kaelie (you) will get a some sort of contact from me making clear my desire to be part of the investigation as both a guinea-pig/assistant… for generous fee.
