how much does resilience help you damage wise in melee combat?
Unknown2007-06-30 01:36:30
Not enough to warrant transing it before guild skills and planar.

I might be pulling numbers out of my ass here, but I believe I remember Roark, or maybe it was Hajamin, saying a year or so ago that it was a 10% or 15% physical reduction at trans.
Unknown2007-06-30 02:32:00
Still good for the poison shrugging though.
Unknown2007-06-30 06:11:42
15% physical reduction at trans.
Unknown2007-07-03 11:11:11
I believe it's considerably better than 15%, actually.

Testing showed it is 25% (at trans) reduction vs cutting, blunt, and poison damage. Few people seem to know that it includes poison, but testing on the test server proved it. It also grants a 33% (at trans) chance to shrug a poison.

The effectiveness of a point spent in Resilience is:

25/1715 ~= 0.015% cutting/blunt/poison damage reduction per lesson spent
33/1715 ~= 0.019% chance to shrug a poison per lesson spent

So, it's an amazingly nice skill..... at trans. Earlier than trans, it isn't so nice. It would take about 700 lessons just to get 10% damage reduction and 13% poison shrug chance, and under that is kinda negligible. I'd say only spend lessons on it if you are tri-trans and have focus mind.

It is so not 25% physical resistance. I believe the actual figure is more like 15%?
Unknown2007-07-08 17:57:41
It's much, much closer to 25%, really.
Vix2007-07-08 18:40:45
Is it safe to assume it's about the same for the Magic skill?

Test it next time the Test Server is active, or have a trans resilience Envoy do it.

Remove all armor. Remove all defs. Hit yourself with a fixed damage cutting, blunt, or poison attack. FORGET RESILIENCE, and do it again.

From my, Forren, and Athana's testing, it was 25%. This was when we were testing Fury/Pollute/Maelstrom.

I don't log things from the test server, but I have the numbers from Athana's Pollute attacks in my notes. I only had gifted resilience at the time though.

At Gifted (I'm pretty sure I was only 289ish lessons in), I took 2761 damage from Pollute undeffed. I then forgot resilience, and took 2877 damage from Pollute.

2877 - 2761 = 116. 116 / 2877 = 0.040320. 0.040320 * 1715 / 289 = 24%. 0.040320 * 1715 / 422 = 16.38% though, so if I am wrong and I was far into Gifted instead of being just barely in, it could be more like 20%. It's definitely not 15% though.

It would be great if someone tested at trans to be sure though... I'm curious now.

I'm rather certain it is the same. I've never tested it extensively though.

im gifted and i shrug toxins off 1/8ish

I'm going to be testing this, though the other way around. I'll be learning resilience to trans from inept pretty soon, so I'll just hit myself with a flail before and after. Warrior attacks are fixed damage, right?

Pretty sure, but hit yourself a few times to be safe. Make sure you have no armor on, no racial resistance to the damage type used, and are not in a place where you regen.
Rika2007-07-09 04:22:33
Warrior attacks are fixed, both in damage and wounding.
Ceren2007-07-31 07:51:37
Okay, I've transed resilience and finished my test. My flail did 818 damage before learning and 621 after. That comes to about a 24% reduction. However, I was an idiot and forgot to take off my armor, so that's not the exact figure. Given that armor has very little effect on damage, and that damage reduction will appear smaller if there's already something else reducing it, I think it's fairly safe to assume that resilience is 25% reduction.

So there, the resilience conundrum settled once and for all. Sort of. dunce.gif

Instead of all this guesswork and he-said she-said, can't an admin just give a definitive answer?

They (almost) never do when it comes to skills like that. tongue.gif
