Not all of you are American. Some of you are British, Polish, Fillipino, Thai, Australian, or Canadian. Some of you are quite proud of your heritage and some of you are quite critical of certain aspects of America (not without just cause). And even some of the Americans are not proud to be American. But for those of you that are American, and are proud of be Americans, happy 4th of July! fireworks.gif

PS: What are you eating?
Furien2007-07-05 01:38:06
I'm eating the still-beating heart of your firstborn son.

(And, of course, waiting for nighttime so I can drag a lawn chair, a big blanket, and some icecream outside to watch the fireworks show! happy.gif )

We got a thunderstorm AND fireworks after, that was the best.
Verithrax2007-07-05 02:58:52
I've got my lucky Zippo lighter with me and my favourite American flag already soaked in alcohol.

I am sure all of you will be pleased to know that I managed to set my foot on fire while playing with bottle rockets. Stomping out burning grass in a pair of Crocs is not a bright idea.

Just saying, the fireworks in boston were FANTASTIC this year. My friends and I got a seat directly in front of the barge where they get set off from....

woooowwwww!

And of course, the Pops are beaaaast.

Happy 4th! (even though its the 5th now...)
Druken2007-07-05 04:46:02
lol, Viravain

I went and had a silly argument by the river with my housemates and then got totally drunk off our "crunk buckets."

Hurray excuse to drink? !

I stayed home and watched fireworks from my lawn. the ones I could see any ways stupid light pollution
Unknown2007-07-05 07:58:53
meh my 4th -o- july sucked, clouds everywhere couldn't see anything got burnt from an explosive super sparkler mmm -afterthought- twisting 4 bottle rockets toghter isnt always a good idea. ps. favorite part of the 4th is setting up huge firework tank armies and watching them shoot at each other.
Druken2007-07-05 12:55:46
Wow. I don't really remember posting that. And sorry, Viravain! I hope your foot's ok!

My family has a really neat tradition where we'll watch the parade in our home town and then decorate our family war heroes' gravestones with flags.

You too?

I went off kayaking at the beginning of the day, then went to a local parade where I saw some of my friends from school. Went back to my grandmother's house for a cookout, and saw some fireworks from our house, but it was pouring when we got home, so we couldn't go, because my mother hates getting wet, which is stupid...
Auraria2007-07-05 14:03:12
It rained, so they canceled the fireworks we were going to go see cry.gif I had to watch them on TV, which wasn't as good. We did have a barbecue though.
Gelo2007-07-05 14:05:55
Our 4th of July is Fil-Am Friendship Day. No one celebrates it though.

(I thought this thread is about Yondaime. happy.gif )
Noola2007-07-05 14:13:27
I was going to cook out but then I didn't. laugh.gif

I did have some really good bbq at a friends' though. Ribs, burgers, sausage... good stuff!

Saw the Transformers movie too and it was super awesome. Watched fireworks and rolled my eyes at drunken antics. All-in-all a good 4th!
Stangmar2007-07-05 23:33:06
Well, i took the rare opportunity to sleep until noon, following this, i drank a lot of mountain dew, watched a bunch of movies, then had some burgers in the evening, got dragged into going to see a musical presentation of "Cinderella" at the local outdoor ampitheater, and then i watched a very brief fireworks display, by that time i was too tired to care about anything anymore, as well as sore from about 2 and a half hours of playing dodgeball earlier(it was freeforall, where you run and dodge ALOT).
Roark2007-07-07 15:09:34
I hung my gadsden flag on front porched and complained about not being able to get any sleep due to all the firecrackers. It always sucks having to wake up at 6 AM July 5th... sad.gif And here's something that I have always wondered about. Does anyone know the origins of this? Why is it always conversationally called "July 4th" rather than "Independence Day"? "July 4th" is what it was called to me as a child and honestly I had no idea what the holiday celebrated until I had my first US history class in school. That's pretty sad. I suspect this verbiage goes back a long way because I can recall old Bugs Bunny cartoons from the 40s or 50s where he said it the same way, so it's probably not something new.

Yeah, that did suck.

As to why we call it the 4th of July... I dunno! Easier to say though happy.gif A whole syllable less.
