my severe caffienne addiction. Any tips to cutting back on caffenated soda pop? I will still probably want to drink the un-caffienated sodas like Sprite or Root Beer, but i'm trying to stop drinking Mountain Dew, Coke, Pepsi, etc.

I'm a fan of Jones Soda, personally. They've got a whole rainbow of flavours, all of them delicious, and most of them made from pure cane sugar rather than corn syrup.

I've never heard of that stuff. Basically, the only soda products near me are from the big two, Coca Cola and Pepsi. I live in southern utah.

I would strongly recommend not drinking any soda. I think the sugar is much worse than the caffeine. I'm trying to quit my Soda habit--it's not the caffeine that I drink it for. Plus, they are now saying the chemicals in diet soda are worse than the regular ones.

Try water, or seltzer if you want the fizzy. If you can break the soda habit you'll feel a lot better.

When I was trying to go off caffeine altogether, I scaled back rather than quitting cold turkey, before cutting it out altogether. Tea is really good for that sort of thing.

Of course, now I'm back to my regular habits, but for a while there, it really helped!

Seltzer is vile. He might try some club soda and flavored syrup (usually found in coffee shops or in the coffee section of the grocery store), or any of a number of other varieties of soda or juice, but I cannot even begin to imagine trying to swear off caffeinated sodas by switching to water or seltzer, which are not only caffeine-free but utterly flavorless.

Thats what makes the transition so easy.

Its like going from smoking tar to breathing fresh clean air. Only its liguid and not gas form.

Hardest part about drinking only water, is that it gets fairly expensive.

You'll also have to start to recognize and learn when you don't like the water because of the temperature of the water, or the tempature of the room (e.g. cold water in a cold room really tastes nasty to me, and hurts my throat) , or if its the various minerals in the brand you don't like.

Yeah, the sugar is pretty bad. Its fairly amazing which "health drinks" are full of stuff that is not good for you.

A while ago, my doctor told me I'm diabetic. Last week I went for a checkup and I was told my blood sugar levels are completely normal. Only thing I've changed is drinking water exclusively.

So you know barq's root beer contains caffine. I belive A&W does too. Sprite, 7-up, and most seltzer waters are the way to go if you want to keep the carbonation. I know there are some with fruit juice mixed in.

I tried getting out of caffinated soda, I'm now addicted to iced tea. sad.gif

The way I quit drinking pop was a recipe my aunt taught me when she came back from Mainland China, where she worked as a RN for a good year and a half.

White Pear Tea
------------------
What you'll need

-A carton of white tea (Lipton is really good. If it doesn't have potassium in the nutrition guide, then its been processed. Processed tea is bad. No good stuff left in it)
-4 Pears
-2 large gallon jugs

What to do:
First, take 8 cups of water and bring them to a rolling boil. Then take the 8 pears and cut them down the middle, then cut each half into 4 large chunks. Take the pears and let them simmer on low heat in the water for a good 30-45 minutes. The longer they simmer, the more juices are soaked up into the water. Then take the water and pears (the pears should be mushy. If not, let them soak for an extra 5 minutes) and put them into the jug/s.

Take 4 tea bags per 1 cup of water (If using 8 cups of water, then you'll be using 24 tea bags, give or take depending on how strong you want your tea) and drop them into the water. Let the tea bags, pears, and water sit in a cool place (fridge) for a full 24 hours, and whalla! Sun pear tea to die for. If you want to add some more sweetness to it, take 3 teaspoons of sugar and put it into the tea. Or sweet'n'low if you're a health fanatic. ^^

I've been drinking it ever since. Its like drinking candied water. Soo freakin good.

I think iced tea has more sugar then sodas and it still has caffeine in it, tons of it tongue.gif

I drink caffeinated drinks as a way to counteract the countless headaches I always get. Caffeine has that affect. Tea tastes just like hot water to me, and coffee is too bitter for me, so I drink sodas. Right now it's being a problem though, since the sugar in the sodas is increasing the side effects of my meds :/

And once you've been diagnosed with diabetes, it's a life long thing, I think, Dag. Your body has either become insulin resistant or doesn't produce insulin anymore. A process with is chronic and incurable :/ Just changing your drinks to water shouldn't be enough to completely avoid the threat, you'd have to eliminate a lot of things from your diet (high-fibre, low-glucose, low-calorie diet for safest results, and maybe add low-sodium as well because of the heart complications diabetes can give.) Need to eat lots of carrots too for vitamin A since diabetes can cause eye damage as well :/

Type I diabetes is permanent and genetic, but Type II, the type Daganev is talking about, has pre-stages and you can prevent that from happening by regulating your diet. That's why it's important to give up high-sugar stuff. They say that all the extra sugar we are eating is actually causing kids and teens to get Type II diabetes! This normally would hit people in their 40s or so.
Yrael2007-07-06 00:27:12
Screw that. Caffiene is WONDERFUL. Start drinking Coke Zero instead. I think the gold label stuff has zero caffiene, if you're that hell bent on tormenting yourself.
Unknown2007-07-06 00:28:28
I once told Yrael I don't drink coffee, tea, energy drinks, or any sort of alcoholic beverage.

His exact response: "HOW CAN YOU REMAIN SANE!!!"

I figured that out, AFTER my friend pointed it out to me.

If you're just worried about the rest, you might want to try no-doz. I was eating those like lollies for a few months there. Wiredwiredwiredwiredwiredwiredwiredwired!! *bouncybouncybouncybouncybouncy*

Here's what I do: Drink Lemonade. It's good, it's tasty, and ADDICTIVE!!

Now, I'm not talking about "Lemon flavoured water" which is the lemonade diluted with tons of water. I'm talking about the stuff that makes your face pucker for like... an hour. That's how you make it!

OR! You could just drink juice. It's got flavour, and depending on what kind of juice it is, it's especially good for you. Drink Orange juice (I prefer without pulp, but it's up to you). It tastes good, and it's REALLY good for you!
Sylphas2007-07-06 00:58:57
I only drink caffeine very occasionally now, when I'm really in the mood for the flavor or Mountain Dew or something, or when drinking actual tea. Herbal teas, water, and juice mostly. It was actually rather easy once I realized that caffeine actually makes me tired. Now I'm working on high fructose corn syrup, which is damn near everything. sad.gif

Basically, I just started drinking other things. As soon as I started taking notice of what I was actually drinking, it wasn't very hard. Plenty of caffeine-free soda choices, or water, juice, etc. As long as you're not picking things up without thinking about it, it'll come eventually.
