Okay... I'm feeling a deep ache in my Playlist on Winamp... so I need music. Now, I'm not totaly all 'in' to music, so I have no idea what to look for, which is where you all come in! Post your favourate music so I can try it out, and disguss any type of music or whatever that you like!

P.S. If you're just giving stuff for me to look up, then I like most Rock, some Rap, and NO COUNTRY! Post country, and I shall... well, yell.

My tastes vary, and I'm not much into rap (not so much the style, but the material that is put into the words. Bah, peevish).

If you're into Rock (though Rock is a term that doesn't mean as much any longer, due to the focus groups on -types- of Rock)

Softer styles: 3 Doors Down, Amorphis,

Speed styles: Dragonforce, Sonata Arctica, Blind Guardian, Yngwie Malmsteen, Kamelot, Divinity Destroyed
Toss in some Killswitch Engage,

Darker bits: Deadstar Assembly, Rammstein, etc

Techno influenced: Zeromancer

Techno influenced and with a female vocalist (in some sense, similar to Evanescence but less the world sucks): Within Temptation

Somewhat of an unusual taste: Apocalyptica. They're primarily a cello group, though they are well known for their covers of Metallica (and their original pieces are very very very nice in my book).

For that which I can't quite place: MSI (Mindless Self Indulgence) - but..this also just makes me laugh - this group's music that is.

---
If you're willing to test out synth/techno, Celldweller is good (Klayton also brings in some rock aspects), and there's a good stream online called Philosomatika (a google search will bring that up), classic Crystal Method and Chemical Brothers, and I'll stop there since there are more people who dislike techno than like or tolerate it.
---
Otherwise, Eva Cassidy has a wonderful voice - there is no original work out for her, but she had had some wonderful covers recorded. Interesting story for her too.

I think I've rambled off names enough for right now.

I'm just going to do this like this. Language/Style: Artist (song I like of theirs)

Nerdcore/Eng: Zearle (hackers and crackers), Futuristic Sex Robotz

Soft/Arabic: Sami Yusuf (Al'Muallam, Hasbi Rabbi), Yusuf Islam (A is for Allah)

Thai Music (all can be listened to for free at www.ethaimusic.com, click artist, and their name, and then the song. Has English lyrics!)

Rock/Thai: ABNormal (dek kwaa laero ngai) Bird Thongchai (Faen Ja) Big Ass* (anything, they are awesome)

HipHop/Thai: Dajim (gig tua thai) B-king (chaeng) Golf Mike (Bounce)

I can give a lot more if you want... most of the music I listen to is in foreign language, and most of the English music I like is from the UK. I love this band called "Dogs Die in Hot Cars" for example.

THANK YOU!!
Simimi2007-07-19 17:45:15
I suppose you're welcome... I didn't think it was such a big thing, but if you enjoy, there is always more.

If you like Asian stuff, check out BigB Radio.
Talnar2007-07-19 18:13:10
Well... I was thanking both of you... so yeah...

I'll have to check that out. Thanks Simimi!

I feel it is my duty to point out that you people have bad taste in music.

I enjoy Evanescence a lot which is sort of rock-ish. I've got some hiphop/rap songs from Akon, Chamillionaire, Kanye West, Ludacris, and Timbaland. Linkin Park is decent, I have a couple songs from Staind and Disturbed, and a Puddle of Mudd cd.
Simimi2007-07-20 03:06:01
Hush Veri, Big Ass the best thing since ... vinyl.

Go listen to your Daddy Yankee. =P

(I like Daddy Yankee...)
Raiha2007-07-20 03:13:58
Incubus and Muse, that's really all you need.

Oh, yes, and Tim McGraw.
Unknown2007-07-20 03:19:42
Anything by Red Hot Chili Peppers.

And The Killers.

You people still have bad taste.

Go listen to They Might be Giants (Or if you so prefer, Iron Maiden) repeatedly until you grow a clue.
Tajalli2007-07-20 06:46:45
Iron Maiden is in the same genre of many I mentioned.
They Might be Giants are nice, though I've been leery of recommending them to others. Their taste is one I can't fully name, and is one many I've come across just...don't like.

Primitive Radio Gods are nice as well - one of their dubbed mainstream songs, "Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth with Money in My Hand" is one of my favourite diddies of all time.

Blind Guardian are incredible examples of power metal. Easily among the best live metal performers. In power metal, Therion is another favourite of mine.

Wintersun and (Old) Ensiferum are very nice examples of softer folk metal. Burzum and Emperor if you want the heavier stuff.

Dark Tranquillity and (Old) In Flames are average examples of gothenburg/melodic death metal. I really need to find better groups in this genre myself, though.

Pain of Salvation are godly examples of prog. metal. Dream Theater is another nice example, though I always found Pain of Salvation far more suitable for my tastes.

If you want something different, as someone previously mentioned, Apocalyptica does the job fairly well. Their covers are absolutely amazing, and their originals would be nice if not for a horrid choice in vocalists. Bal-Sagoth if you want an amazing example of just how creative you can be even within the 'boundries' of a genre (the genre being power/folk metal).

And finally, Johnny Cash is the very manifestation of 'awesome'.

I'd type something extensively analyzing all my favorite artists, but I'm too lazy. Instead, pick from my top 25 (anything below that isn't worth it, unless you get it for free).

...I need more music.
Unknown2007-07-22 04:48:17
What's with all the metal? It's really not that great

Oh, as for music, I can give you some of my favorites but if I knew what you enjoyed I could point you to things.

Tom waits, Iggy Pop, Baracus, David Bowie, M. Ward, Tilly and the Wall, Rilo Kiley, My brightest diamond, The pixies, Frank Black and the Catholics, Nick cage and the bad seeds, Desaparecidos, Cursive, Squirrel Nut Zippers, The Protomen, Modest mouse, The Cure, Brian Setzer, Cake, Joy Division, The Arcade Fire, The Decemberists, Hot Cross, Rites of Spring, Sunny Day Real Estate, The Hives, Scissor Sisters, The Shins, Sufjan Stevens, Spoon.

I have a lot more too but I don't feel like putting it all down. Ask if you want it.

I'm not too into most western music, with some notable exceptions. I've always been an Incubus and Muse fan, and I'm actually really happy with the Dresden Dolls. As far as metal goes, Opeth is kind of fun. I only like metal that has some melodic quality to it. Tool and A Perfect Circle are fun sometimes too. I don't listen to "country" per se, with the sole exception of the bluegrass subgenre, with which I am completely enthralled. I listen to a lot of older sounding jazzy stuff, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, etc... I listen to a lot of southern Indian Ragas, especially the Gundechar brothers, and I'm a big Warda fan. That's a pretty broad spectrum if you're looking to experiment with some unfamiliar sounds, I tend to like specific songs rather than whole CD's or groups in general.
