Stockroom of The Gargling Pixie.

You pick up 217937 gold sovereigns.

-----

Gossamer winds whip around you suddenly as the voice of Lisaera, the Silver
Maiden reverberates, "Bear the weight of My displeasure, Shamarah, for the
cowardly thievery in which you have engaged."

(Bellator Societas): Marcalo says, "CALLED IT!"

Lisaera, the Silver Maiden has bestowed Her divine highdisfavour upon you. It
will last for 3 months.

You shout, "You know, I was actually going to give it back if you'd just asked
nicely... but I think I'll keep it now."

A blazing silver beam speeds across the firmament, wreathed in ethereal mist.
A blazing silver beam speeds toward you and hits you in the chest. Suddenly,
your insides churn with pain as pale light shines forth from all your orifices.
Silver vines burst out of your body, growing rapidly as their fine tendrils wrap
around your arms and legs, viciously tearing you apart. As you drop to the
ground in agony, you see the piercing blue eyes of Lisaera gazing at you in
disapproval, before an ethereal mist enwraps you and leaves you again whole.

You tell High Priestess, Accalia Caelicus, "Well, I hope you're happy. I
seriously was going to give it back if you asked, but now I'll be keeping it - I
could use the credits. You can thank Lisaera."

-----

Several people asked me to make a thread about it, so discuss. I'm not going to post on it for now.

Whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine.

Stealing is lame.

Gods getting involved in every little mortal affair is far, far lamer. Shamarah was going to give everything back, anyways, so it was really just for some fun RPing. Meh, guess he got the fun RP in the end.
Verithrax2007-07-19 19:33:05
Holding what one person (Lisaera) did against someone else (Accalia) is also lame.
Unknown2007-07-19 19:33:12
I think a lot of it depends on what led up to it.

I've always said, I think stealing can add and be quite a bit of fun. That in itself isn't necessarily lame, unless you steal enough to get to the point of griefing. Who was around to defend and keep you out? How did you get into the storeroom? Etc, etc.

Lisaera disfavoring you could have been appropriate or lame, depending on what really led up to it. You could very well have deserved every bit of it, but I know how annoying it gets when enemy divine disfavor for everything.
Sylphas2007-07-19 19:35:31
That's seriously lame.
Shamarah2007-07-19 19:38:32
Hey, look, round two. I went on back, stole 40k more and some kegs.

Gossamer winds whip around you suddenly as the voice of Lisaera, the Silver
Maiden reverberates, "Crawl like the maggot you are, Shamarah."

Spasms of acute pain suddenly wrack your body, twisting your insides in vicious
knots. Your flesh rips painfully apart, revealing mounds of disgusting,
disease-ridden maggots which burst from your skin as the world seems to grow
larger and larger. The mocking laughter of Lisaera, the Silver Maiden rings in
your ears as your transformation into a filthy maggot is complete.
Your race is now that of Maggot.

You are:
High disfavoured by Lisaera for about 71 hours.
Cursed with the revolting form of a maggot by Lisaera for about 23 hours.

I'd wanted to steal from a shop for a while just to see if I could. I saw Accalia walking around in Shallamurine, pookaed her to give me the key, flowed in to someone near the shop, and stole all the gold. That was it.

EDIT: Oh, and, I forgot about this too:

Issue #46897 Reported by: Kalodan Re: Shamarah
2007/07/19 19:32:26:
Abusing a bug that allows old shop keys after locks were changed to rob shops.

what?

Guess you'll all be seeing very little of Shamarah and rather a lot of my alt for the next few days.
Verithrax2007-07-19 19:39:01
On the other hand, it's Lisaera's prerogative how she uses or abuses her divine powers (Even though I do think they ought to come up with something cleverer than highdisfavours sometime. And something that doesn't screw with character free will, either, because that is the one thing that is really definitely and entirely off-limits as far as I'm concerned) and it's Shamarah's prerogative to play his character like a vindictive jerk.
Zacc2007-07-19 19:39:51
I'll be expecting similar to happen to other thieves.

Edit: Oh, and sigils on keys are great (unless you mix the key up with key sigils and accidently drop it, locking you in the stockroom (whoops)).

I wouldn't expect anything different at that point.

Oh, I was expecting her to zap me or something like that, I was just posting it for the record. I just didn't really care so I figured I'd go ahead and do that. I'm going to be playing my alt until the HDF wears off anyhow, and the HDF lasts longer than the maggot, so it doesn't really matter at all.

Frankly, I don't think it was any of Lisaera's concern if a shop happened to get robbed, and I don't think she should've gotten involved. Leave it for the mortals to handle amongst themselves. I don't believe the gods should dirty their hands dealing with mortal affairs and cleaning up their messes. It makes them seem petty, vindictive, and small, especially when there are far more damaging and creative ways to handle such a situation.

That being said, it's not our call to make. Right or wrong, unless they violate the guidelines (I'm assuming that) Estarra's set up for them, they can apparently do as they please.

Verithrax2007-07-19 19:51:20
Ah, the joy of the indiscriminate highdisfavour: Its only effect is to get people to stop playing.
Unknown2007-07-19 19:52:38
The maggotry made sense. Seren changed those locks, and you came back and re-opened the door with an old key. You might not have realized it, but that is clearly a bug that you made use of.

Note: Gargling Pixie is a commune shop, which is probably why she got involved. Shamarah stole from the entire commune, not just one person. Lisaera is part of that commune.

I could understand if it was an order shop, but robbing a commune shop summoning Lisaera seems like a bit of a stretch.
Verithrax2007-07-19 19:59:08
If there had been bug abuse, Shamarah would have been subjected to OOC, not IC punishment. Maggoting has nothing to do with bug abuse.

Yeah, I found that out afterwards. For a minute on keylist it appeared as leading to "an impossible place" so I figured that meant they'd changed the locks, but then I looked back a minute later and it said it'd work to enter the stockroom so I figured they'd changed it back or something for some reason. Anyone know why that might have happened?
Sarrasri2007-07-19 20:02:35
You can't change locks back. Once you change a lock, it's changed and it's supposed to make all keys from before not work. We think Lisaera was looking into old keys still working when you came the second time.
Gwylifar2007-07-19 20:03:40
The trouble with stealing from a shop is that you're almost certain to end up hurting people who have nothing whatever to do with whatever it is you're getting your revenge for. I happen to know that the second theft was the entire life savings of someone who was entirely uninvolved, beyond being generous enough to try to help restock the shop. (Why it got put into the shop while the lock change still was bugged is beyond me, though.)
