Literary Winner and Glomdoring

To anyone who says Glomdoring doesn't get special treatment by the administration: You're wrong.

Check the latest politics post about the literary / scholarly winners, then please check culture. What you'll find is how it -always- has been each time Serenwilde tied with Glomdoring, that is Glomdoring wins by default. Apparently a code issue that was bugged ages ago. Yet also a code issue that is (apparently) not a bug but intentional.

I can understand if Glomdoring got a bit of pampering right after they opened, but right now they are the ones with the most power laden nexus in the game. Is this bit of code to gain them more power than the rest of the basin really necessary anymore?

If Glomdoring hadn't default won this time again, Serenwilde would be cultural center. So we're basically losing 1500 power each rl day due to a bit of code that is outdated and unneeded. It just really starts to annoy you if you see people in Serenwilde trying to write good books to win, then tie with Glomdoring and lose by default. It's discouraging to say the least. If there is a tie the power could just be split and each gets 250.

Unless someone can explain to me why Glomdoring would need to hoard a lot more power than any other organization in the game..?

EDIT:

My plea to the administration is simple: Could this bit of code -please- be removed and perhaps replaced so that in a tie each participant gets 250 power? A tie means after all that you have TWO winners, not one.

It's a bug. It's not "special treatment". We don't want it any more than you do. Stop whining.

It was bugged -ages- ago and never found important enough to fix. *shrug*

Besides, my real whining consists of simply playing another game. This is a mere hope to just bring it up and have it fixed. Otherwise you'll have people saying 'we were never told about this'.
Shamarah2007-07-24 11:57:44
Sure, it needs fixing, I just don't know how you can say we get "special treatment" from the admins because of a bug with culture. I'm sure they don't intentionally implement bugs into their own game.
Verithrax2007-07-24 12:29:47
Bugs are not special treatment. The admin may do some stupid things occasionally, but they're not downright bent as you're implying they are.

Of course, to be fair, from my understanding the Serenwilde is only so high because of the Shofangi. It was a bit stacked in favour of the Wilde to begin with.

Actually right now the Serenwilde has 41% cultural activity + 100 bonus for highest. Usually we have around 30% activity + 100 bonus as highest. So even without the shofangi we might be cultural centre though it would be close race yes.

And sheesh no I doubt most admin would be biased on purpose, although there have been some in the past that were. What I do think however is that there is often a huge difference between how an admin and how a player would view the game and what they'd view as important and what not. That in turn leads to having things implemented that only a minority of the game would need and the majority grumbling silently because the problems that seem more important from a players view aren't addressed for a long time (and this is generally speaking).

All in all it lead me to writing this thread in a bit more of an aggressive style to provoke a reaction. Don't take the wording itself too seriously but the problem is real (and has been for a long time) and annoying.

Last time a thread like this was made, Estarra posted and explained the logic behind the code. I don't remember what it was offhand, but I remember understanding and still thinking it should be another way. It has something to do with some other variable, like last winner in that category or a different library score or something like that. It's not a bug so much as a really ugly feature.

It is open to discussion whether or not certain ex gods were completely unbiased when it came to the librarycontest, however, I assure you that no such favoritism has taken place in this instance. The administration is largely aware of this bug however, during the last vote we accidentally created a tie thus causing said problem. I personally apologise for this and will see about what measures may be taken to undo this (I personally can't do this and as such I can make no definite promises.)

While I am not personally involved in the code, I am aware that the Lusternia Library system is perhaps the most complex system codewise found across all four IRE muds, as such fixing this bug is no easy matter, especially as the original creator is no longer an employee of Iron Realms Entertainment. I am sure that those involved in the code have made callibrations of gains versus time spent when looking into this problem and have made well considered decisions about this. (Though, note once again that I am not one of the Lusternia coders and am unaware of what goes on in the debugging department.)

Once again my apologies about the inconvenience caused, but I assure you that no favouritism is currently taking place.

P.S. While you accuse the Administrators of favouritism, it might be interesting to know that Viravain did in fact not vote in this particular librarycontest.

Thanks, knowing that it is being addressed and not forgotten about beneath the zillion of other things that need doing is all I wanted. smile.gif

PS: Viravain is cool. 'nuff said.

From: Roark Libertas
To : Everyone
Subj: Ties

There should be a fix to the bug where a tie in library prestige results
only shows for one of the winners, and a similar one for theater where
no one would get the bonus if there was a tie.

Penned by My hand on the 24th of Estar, in the year 182 CE.
