With a focused look, Krin strikes at you with a silver longsword, and you raise
a golden sunburst shield. Krin's longsword strikes your shield, which completely
absorbs the blow.
With a focused look, Krin strikes at you with a silver longsword. You are struck
in the chest for a small surface wound.
With a focused look, Krin strikes at you with a silver longsword. Krin strikes
your left arm, striking a major artery that splurts blood in all directions.
With a focused look, Krin strikes at you with a silver longsword. A long,
bleeding rend is struck into your belly.

1) How much damage does it normally do; decent master weapons versus non-Transcendant Resilience and Combat?
2) How much damage should it have done to me if I didn't catch the first hit on shieldparry?
3) Am I susceptible to getting instantly killed by anyone using this + Omen + Sensitivity?
4) How much power does Haymaker cost?
5) (Unrelated) After transcending Magic, should I transcend Arts for illusion checking or get a shield rune and a magic quill?
Furien2007-07-27 07:32:20
1) Not sure
2) Also not sure
3) If the swords have the right stats, that's a possibility. Stay deaf to avoid any insta-sensitivity.
4) 10 power
5) Edit: Okay, looks like you've got it. Quills make scrolls cost -so- much less it's disgusting. Everyone loves people who have quills. I'm not sure if transing Arts is worth it, but I've never had lessons in it to begin with.

Note that those were longswords, which don't do as much damage as other swords (rapiers, scimitars, etc.) but I'm not sure how the whole which-sword-is-for-what thing works.
Rika2007-07-27 07:52:03
1) and 2) Haymaker does however much damage a normal jab would do times four. Each jab is just a jab. So if you parry one blow, it'd do three times a normal jab.

May or may not answer 3) for you. I wouldn't think it to be possible to even come close to instakilling someone with over 3k health even with omen and sensitivity.

Though if you have a critical head and Haymaker hits you have a really good chance of getting beheaded unless they changed haymaker into jabs not swings
Rika2007-07-27 08:05:14
Well yes, there is always the beheading, but that's not really the haymaker (more beheading), and I assumed Yevah meant from damage. And yeah, haymaker should be swings, though they look a lot like jabs...
Ceren2007-07-27 08:24:08
Could be wrong, but I always thought each haymaker swing does 3/4 the damage of a normal attack, so a full haymaker will do as much damage as 3 normal attacks, while wounding is a full 4 attacks. Also, I'm pretty sure you can't behead on haymaker. I remember behead being changed to only work on hack down.
Shamarah2007-07-27 11:22:22
I do believe Ceren is correct about the 3/4 damage thing. Although that's odd if behead can't work on haymaker, I know bashbrains can work on pulp.

Neither. You should save up for a rune of absorption.

Estarra made Pulp so Bonecrushers could abuse Bashbrains and the rest of us could stare in awe.
Ixion2007-07-27 14:15:51
Haymaker is for slitlocks and surprise really. It sucks. You -cannot- behead with it, and two lunges does more wounding for 4p instead of costing 10p and being blocked by three layers of defense (parry, stance, rebound).

I'm pretty sure I could behead anyone with 12/12 robes in 4 seconds. That's your problem.

Rapiers are the fast ones, typically used in hunting, but seeing as all the Rapier's I've ever seen have really good precision, you can use them for combat to do some good wounding.

Scimitars are the wounding ones, with the high precision, everything else is lower.

Broadswords are the ones with really good damage, and everything else is average.
Unknown2007-07-27 15:06:47
They changed haymaker so that you couldnt behead with it? Whos idea was that... sneaky behead was the only use for a haymaker

Assault used to be able to behead. Unblockable, unparryable. The change to fix assault was that "the only way to get a behead is on hackdown," which nerfed BMs as well.

A similar change was not made to Pulp.

The equivalent would be if Pulp could do Bashbrain, and it never could. It's a jab, not a swing.

Are you sure? I think I remember getting BlackEye on pulp, which is a swing.

Pulp has done bashbrain in the past, though that could have been buggy. A number of the BC wounds like that were / are kind of doing weird things.

Should get Ash to see if he can pull off a Bashbrain on pulp nowadays.

A pulp alone? Hmm...could be difficult. Best to wait for Demi and my runed morningstars. (Oh baby, oh baby, I can't wait for my 107/265/183 boys)

No, not a pulp alone. You'd have to hit down to pretty deep in crit using jabs, and then do a pulp to see what happens.
Krellan2007-07-27 18:09:16
I also remember hearing people on the receiving end of Nico's weapons a pulp whore. I assumed it meant he pulped for a bashbrain.
