I've heard that shields have NO effect in PvE and that they DO have an effect in PvE. Which is it? My own tests are somewhat, er, inconclusive. Also, shield runes. The helpfile states "Transforms the object into a shield item, so you may use it for any shield-related skill. " I heard that the transformed shield is 52/52? True/false? Anyways. Any info is appreciated.

They are 52/52, correct.
They become shields essentially, so yeah can use shield related skills.
If you have to choose between a grip rune and a shield rune, get the grip first.

Do shields have an effect in PvE? Y/N?

Do they? Alot harder to test something with less than constant damage.. however you notice everyone seems to wield them who has trueshield, even noncombatants.
