Pleasant Dreams

Alright, so here's how it goes.

I went to sleep in my manse because I was dead tired, and I proceeded to have a succession of varyingly-horrible dreams concerning tentacles, death, strange machines, all-consuming darkness and other ominous things. It got me thinking- why aren't there any pleasant dreams? It would seem to me that not every single dream should be horrible- as it is, I don't enjoy sleeping in Lusternia at all simply because the dreams are all so repugnant. A few good ones mixed in with the bad would help that out a lot.

Comments?

I can agree with that.

I like the dreams. Lusternia is a war-torn place with rare to few happy times. If you think those dreams are gruesome/repugnant you haven't seen Serenwilde's dreams which are full of blood, gore, and other dreadful things. I personally like the dreams and still sleep occasionally by wearing out my endurance just so I can see them. Mmm, lovely dreams of druids hanging from trees, lakes of blood, and gruesome battles. Serenwilde specific dreams are my favourite as the rest are tame compared to them. freaked.gif

I agree that happy dreams don't fit too much. Perhaps there should be some bizarre dreams though, reflecting the aether bubbles nature.

When I was still vulnerable to hunger and sleep (haha you lowbies =p kidding), I think I had a dream about flying over hills and lakes and a waterfall. Whether or not I suddenly fell to my death at the end of that dream I don't remember. But it was pleasant.

Theres the one were your naked in the market place.. I think that one falls along the lines of the most non-pleasant, though embarassing.. Oh and there is one where some being is waving their arms across from you as if trying ot get attention.. That one isn't so bad.

The annoying thing about dreams isn't that you get nightmares so often, but rather that dreams were (in the game, not in fiction in general - but now that I mention it...) used as a plot device so often that it simply isn't funny anymore. Each time you get a new dream, you can be sure an event is underway - and if an event started already, the dream is bound to be important. And the other way around - if an event starts, you can be sure to have a new dream.

It's a slightly more subtle, but still rather heavy-handed way of a lusternian god telling the poor mortals what must be done next. I prefer events when the mortals have brains to figure stuff out on their own for a change, instead of relying on divine/spirits/dreams/Fates/fae/gnomes or Ironbeard.

BACK TO TOPIC!
Magnagora has two or three pleasant dreams. One when you become the emperor, and the other when you have a fancy party with prisoners being tortured in the background. Of course, pleasant is flavoured here in a distinctively Magnagoran theme. Don't know about Glomdoring, but other places don't have "nice" org-themed dreams. I guess that's because, to each their own - what might make a nice dream for one would be horrid for another.

There are a number of dreams that are more reflective or thoughtful in nature. And I'll have to agree with Cuber, Magnagora's org based dreams are probably the most "pleasant". Giving a rousing speech and driving the masses of Magnagora into fierce cheering sounds about as good as it gets.

There's also at least one general dream that seems pretty "nice", with you and some goddess (Isune, I believe) flying over the firmament and painting a sunset. happy.gif

Though of course, I guess a few peeps out there might call that a nightmare too.

@Kashim: There are a few dreams like that - one distinctly related to the Facility, and another that takes you through several in one dream, including the Desert triangle place, the candy place, and Frosticia (no, I don't know the exact names - so sue me).

I always found the dream about walking nude a bit funny. My character doesn't have much problem with walking around naked.

And the Serenwilde has a nice dream where you are an animal hunting. (Also one about being hunted which ends a bit abrupt.)
I would like more of those kinds of dreams, which show a more close link with the forest.
It would be nice to have dreams about being other creatures, so that meeting them in the basin will involve you more.
